The team used weather conditions to tease apart confounding factors affecting pollution and suicide rates, arriving at what they consider to be a truly causal connection. The results, published in the journal Nature Sustainability, unearth air quality as a key factor influencing mental health.

Tech View: Nifty giving non-directional signs. What should traders do on Friday
Nifty ended 32 points higher just above the 21-day Exponential Moving Average (21EMA). However, the prevailing sentiment appears somewhat negative from the current level. At the lower end, crucial support is positioned at 21,950; as long as the index maintains a position above 21,950, there is a possibility of witnessing a recovery. Nevertheless, a decline below 21,950 could potentially lead the index towards 21,800, said Rupak De of LKP Securities.

The “eyes” have it: IISc study finds eye movements & attention are closely linked
attention and eye movements are linked, while unveiling how the brain coordinates the two processes. Attention is a unique phenomenon that allows us to focus on a specific object in our visual world, and ignore distractions. When we pay attention to an object, we tend to gaze towards it. Therefore, scientists have long suspected that attention is tightly coupled to rapid eye movements, called saccades. In fact, even before our eyes move towards an object, our attention focuses on it, allowing us to perceive it more clearly – a well-known phenomenon called pre-saccadic attention, IISc said in a press release. However, in a new study published in PLOS Biology, the researchers at CNS show that this perceptual advantage is lost when the object changes suddenly, a split second before our gaze falls upon it, making it harder for us to process what changed.

Adobe's new Gen AI offering will allow you create and edit music. Here's how it works
AI-powered innovation seems to emerge with every passing day, and in the latest iteration of this sequence, Adobe announced on Wednesday that it is working on a new proprietary tool called Project Music GenAI Control, which will allow users to create music using only text prompts and also edit these clips without having to use dedicated software. Explaining the idea behind the new AI tool, Adobe's head of audio and video AI research, Gautham Mysore said (as quoted by TechCrunch), “So this really gets the idea of, AI is generating music with you in the director’s seat and there’s a bunch of things you can do with it…[The tool is] generating music, but it’s [also] giving you these various forms of control so you can try things out.

Humpback whale sex captured for 1st time — and it was between 2 males
Sometimes studying nature gets voyeuristic — but whale watchers off the coast of Hawaii got more than they bargained for when they observed two male humpback whales getting freaky in the wild. The encounter made waves in the scientific marine community, as this was both the first recorded evidence of penetrative sex in the species and the first witnessed homosexual activity between two humpback whales.A study documenting the unprecedented moment, as well as the accompanying photographs, was published in the journal Marine Mammal Science on Tuesday. Two photographers opportunistically captured the historic moment west of Maui in January 2022. Whether they wanted to or not, Lyle Krannichfeld and Brandi Romano got rare front-row seats to the action when the two male humpbacks initiated sex only three to five feet below their boat. The occurrence was then studied and validated by scientists. The study says despite the decades-long efforts of researchers, the sexual behaviour of humpback whales “remains largely undescribed.”According to the study, the two male humpback whales approached the boat and circled one another several times.
