"No question of apology," says Udhayanidhi in veiled reference to his Sanatana Dharma remark
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin, in a veiled reference to the Sanatana dharma 'eradication' remark he made last year, has said that he will not apologise for his comment. Addressing an event in Dindigul, Udhayanidhi said that women did not have the right, once upon a time, to even step out of their homes and also to go to schools. Reformist leader 'Periyar' EV Ramasamy raised his voice against all such discriminatory practices. The Deputy CM said he followed Periyar, Dravidian icon CN Annadurai and late DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi and uttered only what such leaders had said in the past. Udhaynidhi presided over the self-respect marriage of Andichami (son of party leader Natham M A Andi Ambalam, a former MLA) with Radha Devi in Dindigul. «Case has been filed against me not only in Tamil Nadu but in several courts in India,» he said without making a direct reference to his Sanatana dharma related comment.

Karnataka to formulate policy to increase investment in the green energy
green energy sector. The state’s Industries Minister, MB Patil, announced the need for a policy to effectively capitalize on investment and production opportunities on Tuesday. With an estimated requirement of Rs 45-50 crore in capital and five gigawatts of power, the state aims to boost such projects. “As per experts, a location within a 20 km radius of Mangaluru port would be ideal for green ammonia and green hydrogen production,” Patil said while interacting with the state's Vision Group for Green Energy. He emphasized that achieving the state's renewableenergy goals will require close coordination between the Department of Large-Scale Industries and the Department of Power. A second meeting will be held with industrialists and potential investors to discuss the way forward. Patil also noted that there are suggestions to establish green industrial parks to attract more investments into the sector. Renewable energy company-- Avaada Energy’s CEO, Krishna Nair, who was present for the meeting, said the company has signed an MoU with Karnataka worth Rs 45,000 crore for green hydrogen production. «We can focus on electrolyte and battery production if the government introduces the right policies and incentives.»

Auto sales indicate slowing down in urban economy: Chetan Ahya
Chetan Ahya, Chief Asia Economist, Morgan Stanley, says it looks like the urban economy or the urban consumption which had led the initial recovery, is the one which is slowing. We are looking at the auto sales data on a daily basis from the government sources and it is indicating that there has been an improvement in the last few days in terms of auto sales. But urban consumption is the one which has raised some concern because there has been a broad-based slowdown. While there has been a slowdown over the past few months, all eyes are now on what the festive season could potentially bring. Could we see some sort of a shift or a pickup? Chetan Ahya: Yes, that is right. We are expecting things to improve over the next few weeks. The main reason why growth was slowing was the government expenditure slowdown and then parallelly we had the excess rainfall in August and at the same time there were some shifts in the calendar effects, particularly the festival and inauspicious time period.

Supreme Court warns ED for the manner which PLMA is being implemented
Supreme Court on Monday criticised the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and expressed concern over the way in which PMLA was being implemented. It also made it clear that any high-handedness against any accused in violation of their fundamental rights would not be allowed, reported TOI. “ED officers should remember that there is something called Article 21 in the country (which guarantees right to life and liberty),” the Supreme Court said. A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih took exception to the way in which former IAS officer Anil Tuteja was issued summons and arrested in a hurry. It sought an explanation from ED.

India most successful IPO market in the world for 2024: Alex Clavel
Mumbai: SoftBank Investment Advisers co chief executive Alex Clavel rates India among its top performing markets, on the back of a spree of public listings by its portfolio firms. “India is the world’s most successful IPO market of 2024,” he said during an exclusive interaction with ET at SoftBank’s office in Mumbai. “Others, including the US, haven’t seen as many IPOs, even outside of tech.” Clavel took over his new role at the Japanese conglomerate a year ago, jointly leading its investing vehicle SoftBank Vision Fund ( SVF) with Rajeev Misra. While Clavel spearheads SVF-II, Misra who stepped away from day-to-day operations in 2022 and later launched One Investment Management, oversees legacy investments from SVF-I. Clavel’s ascension coincided with a tightening of the ship at the Masayoshi Son-founded group after years of exuberance, amid a broader reset in the technology investing world.

RG Kar: Mamata Banerjee, junior doctors hold 2-hour talks amid ongoing protests
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and agitating junior doctors on Monday lasted nearly two hours, discussing various demands of the medics, including the prevailing "threat culture" in the state's hospitals, to resolve the impasse stemming from the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Hospital in August. During the talks, held on the 17th day of a fast-unto-death by some protesting doctors, which was streamed Live for the first time from the state secretariat-Nabanna, Banerjee urged the junior doctors to end their fast, stating that most of their demands had been addressed, while rejecting the one on removing the state health secretary. Although both sides agreed on the prevailing threat culture, they differed on the underlying premises, forces, and situations that promote it. «At RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, several junior doctors and medical students were suspended without following proper procedures and rules. How can these students or resident doctors be suspended just on the basis of complaints? Who gave the college authorities the right to take such a step without informing the state government? Isn't this a threat culture?» the chief minister said.
