Google parent Alphabet on Wednesday asked a London tribunal to throw out a mass lawsuit that accuses the tech giant of abusing its dominance in the online search market. The lawsuit — valued at up to 7 billion pounds ($9.3 billion) — is the latest case focusing on the business practices of Google, which is currently facing a major antitrust trial in the United States over its online advertising business. It is also one of several multibillion-pound cases to have been filed at Britain's Competition Appeal Tribunal in recent years, including a similar case against Google for allegedly abusing its dominance in the online advertising market.

Reuven Azar, on Wednesday strongly condemned Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's comments on the treatment of minorities in India, calling the remarks «ridiculous» and hypocritical. Azar pointed out that while Khamenei lectures other nations, Iran itself is accused of suppressing freedoms and violating human rights. «It is really ridiculous that this radical leader is trying to lecture others while he is killing his own population oppressing freedoms like freedom of religion, freedom of speech, human rights that is completely outrageous and we hope Iranian people are going to be free one day from such oppression and tyranny coming from Khamenei,» Azar told PTI. The Iranian leader, addressing a gathering of clerics in Tehran on Monday, talked about what he described as «suffering» of Muslims in Gaza, Myanmar and India.

markets economy Election wellness Trade Cycling rights Why US Fed is going to go for a 50 bps cut? Manish Singh explains
Manish Singh, Market Expert, says the reason the Fed is going to cut by 50 bps and why it should cut 50 bps is that if the inflation is on track to be at 2%, (it is at 2.5% now), what justifies the rates being this restrictive, as we have seen the most rapid increase in rates in the last 40 years. The rates have been at 5.25% for 14 months. What justifies it being at this high restrictive level? There is no point. So, for that reason you are going to get 50 basis point cut. While most analysts were holding the view that the American economy is fine, there is no recession right now or even on the horizon, a soft landing with a 25 basis point cut was turning up to be the consensus view. But now things have slightly changed in the run-up to the FOMC meet. Have not they? A 50 basis point rate cut does not seem completely unlikely. Manish Singh: No, it is not unlikely and we are going to get that and it is justified. Because if you look at where the two-year rate is, the two-year treasury yield is at 3.57% and the upper bound of the Fed fund rate is 5.5%, so we are talking about 190 basis point spread. You have to go back to 2008 to see the spread this wide.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar expressed disappointment on Tuesday over the lack of recognition for his development efforts in Baramati. Despite securing significant funds for the constituency, Pawar feels his contributions have not been fully appreciated by the people. He highlighted the importance of acknowledging achievements, noting that even completed work can be overlooked if not properly highlighted. Pawar reflected on his loss in the Lok Sabha elections, accepting responsibility but pointing to challenges such as the Covid pandemic and limited time out of power, which he said reduced his productive years to three. Despite the substantial funds Baramati received, Pawar believes his efforts have been taken for granted.

Senate has failed to pass legislation to create a national right to in vitro fertilisation (IVF), with Republicans blocking the effort for a second time this year. The vote was 51-44, falling short of the 60 votes needed. Only two Republican senators, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, supported the bill. Vice President Kamala Harris criticized the Senate's decision, saying Republicans have shown they will not protect access to fertility treatments. President Joe Biden also expressed his disappointment, calling the situation «outrageous and unacceptable.» Democrats, led by Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, accused Republicans of hypocrisy. Duckworth pointed out that many Republicans claim to support IVF but refuse to vote for legislation guaranteeing its availability. “They say they support IVF—here you go, vote on this," Duckworth said.

markets UPS IPO wellness Trade rights Bajaj Housing Finance, Ola Electric trading at crazy valuations that can’t be justified: Sandip Sabharwal
Sandip Sabharwal, asksandipsabharwal.com, says the price at which Bajaj Housing Finance is trading is crazy and there is no way one can justify these valuations when large, established, diversified financials are trading at half, one-third, or maybe 25% of the valuation of this company. Like with many other IPOs, this is just frenzied trading in a limited-float stock. Sabharwal says there’s a similar frenzy in Ola Electric, which is losing market share every month, it is giving forecasts based on them either maintaining or improving market share, which is not going to happen. FOMO is setting in over the Bajaj Housing Finance IPO. The stock for a second consecutive day ended up in the green. But what is the message out there for people who want to participate right now? Should they be sitting on the sidelines, waiting for the frenzy to be over?

«Because there is growth slowdown and I have been in India for the last couple of days and there are visible signs of slowdown, whether it is real estate in northern India or consumption part of the economy,» says Rahul Chadha, Shikhara Investment. What is it that you are making of the market right now? I mean, all the valuation concerns aside, markets and not just us, globally, they do not want to stop. Rahul Chadha: I think what markets are looking is what Fed would do tomorrow. So, September 18th is when Fed comes for a meet and clearly, we are seeing globally economic data being soft but the hope is that policymakers, particularly here, the central banks come quickly, act quickly, and cut rates quickly, so which is where 50 bps cut from Fed would be reassuring and we have had some statements from the Fed members saying that Fed should go to neutral rates very quickly.

markets economy Election President show rights Silver lining for the ex-president: economy and immigration; that's where Donald Trump scores against Kamala Harris
Donald Trump might have a bright spot. Numerous polls since the candidates' Tuesday meeting in Philadelphia have shown Harris to be just ahead of Trump. Trump still has the advantage when it comes to voters' trust in his ability to handle immigration and the economy. These two issues that voters have repeatedly stated are their top concerns in this year's election, even though Harris has seen a slight increase in support. Although polls released over the past week may not fully reflect the impact of the debate and issues like Trump's second alleged assassination attempt, they generally indicate a slight to moderate improvement for Harris.
