China a unique problem and not just for India: EAM Jaishankar
India isn’t against investments from China or doing business with companies from there, but it’s common sense to have the investments scrutinised because there is a “general China problem”, external affairs minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday. “It has never been the government’s position… But on the investment issue, it is common sense that investments from China would be scrutinised. I think the border and the state of relations between India and China call for it,” Jaishankar said at a session on ‘New India's Risks, Reforms, and Responsibilities’ at The Economic Times World Leaders Forum. China in many ways is a unique problem because of its distinct political and economic systems, and it’s not just a problem for India, he said. “We are not the only country that is having a debate about China. Go to Europe, and ask them what is today among your major economic or national security debates? It’s about China. Look at the US. It's obsessed with China, and rightly so in many ways. So, the fact is, let's not make out as though it's only India which has a China problem,” the minister said.

Futures, options, and financial ruin: Inside India's F&O trading craze
Trading quickly became a habit, and Sharma soon felt his dream of achieving financial independence—generating a corpus of Rs 1 crore—was getting closer to reality. But today, Sharma’s account is bleeding red, having racked up losses of Rs 60 lakh, roughly equal to his annual salary. Meanwhile, the habit that started as a cool hobby has now turned into pure addiction. “I just can’t stop! I know I should stop trading for the day if it is not going according to my plan. I know the game is rigged, that most traders lose money… I have all the wisdom, but I am not able to turn my eyes away from the computer screen. I’m addicted to it now like a moth to the flame,” says Sharma, who is the sole breadwinner in his family of five.

Did Donald Trump alter his position on Florida’s abortion rights ballot amendment under GOP pressure?
Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, has announced his opposition to Florida's Amendment 4, a ballot measure that seeks to overturn the state's six-week abortion ban. This decision marks a significant shift in Trump's position, as just 24 hours earlier, he had appeared open to supporting the amendment, which would enshrine abortion protections in the Florida state constitution.

Ever wondered how a fund manager picks stocks? Learn from the horse's mouth
Charlie Munger had once said that the big money is not in the buying or selling but in waiting. But to wait for a stock to give you ten-bagger returns, you need conviction. And conviction comes when you know what you are buying and why you are buying. To help investors learn how to pick the right stock, ETMarkets is organizing an online session with Gautam Baid, Managing Partner at Stellar Wealth Partners India Fund. Praan Hive air purifier review: Clean air meets luxurious design
₹54,999), and while it’s all about achieving near-pristine air quality levels, it’s also the most refreshing take on air purifier design I’ve seen in a long while. Call it a homage or inspired design, the Hive takes several cues from the ‘Aluminum era’ industrial design of Apple products, most notably the ‘cheese grater’ Mac Pro – the use of aircraft grade aluminum in a familiar space gray color, for instance. It’s a gorgeous piece of kit, looking quite at home in my living room, although it may be too industrial for classic/vintage home décor.

Some good, some bad: Experts on Sebi’s plan for tough merchant banking norms
Sebi proposes mandate for regulated entities to maintain stakeholder communication records “It has been observed that merchant bankers are engaged in private placement activities pertaining to unlisted companies, advisory services for projects and syndication of rupee term loans, which are outside the domain of SEBI," the paper said. Arguing that such activities pose significant regulatory and systemic risks, the regulator proposed an overhaul of its regulations governing merchant bankers. Sebi’s paper clarified that merchant bankers—excluding banks and public financial institutions—will undertake only those activities that are related to the securities market and fall under Sebi’s jurisdiction.

Avani Lekhara defends her title with a new record and gives India first gold medal in Paris. Mona wins bronze
gold medal at stake, the top two — India’s Avani Lekhara and Korea’s Yunri Lee — were tied on points. The pressure was squarely on Lekhara as she was desperately fighting to defend the gold medal she had won in Tokyo. Lee, on the other hand, had peaked at the right time and shot multiple 10.8s to stay neck and neck with the Indian. Under pressure from her opponent, Lekhara fired a 9.9 in her penultimate shot. The Korean took advantage of the Indian’s wobble and fired another fantastic 10.7 to secure a 0.8 advantage going into the final shot. Even the hopeless optimists must have given up on the hope of the gold medal. It seemed the curse of Olympics ‘near misses’ was following India to the Paralympics too. But that’s when sport teaches you a lesson. That it’s not over till it’s over. 10.5 in her final shot for a final score of 249.7 to improve upon her own Paralympic record by 0.1. Now, all eyes were on the Korean. It was her medal to lose. Perhaps the weight of expectations was too much for Lee to bear as she ended up shooting a shocking 6.8 and surrendered the gold. Lekhara was once again the champion, India got its first gold medal in Paris.
