EET Fuels appoints Toyo-India for Industrial Carbon Capture Project
EET Fuels (a trading name of Essar Oil (UK) Ltd), has appointed Toyo Engineering India Pvt. Ltd. (Toyo-India) (100% subsidiary of Toyo Engineering Corporation, Japan) a leading engineering, procurement, and construction company, to carry out the FEED phase — an integral part of the project management process. Toyo-India will oversee design completion, project de-risking, detailed costing analysis, and other vital work. Completion of FEED will enable the Company to make the final investment decision (FID) on the ICC project. Upon completion (expected in 2028), the ICC project will capture carbon dioxide emitted from Stanlow refinery’s full-residue fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit — one of Europe’s largest units. Leveraging Stanlow’s unique location, the captured carbon dioxide will use a repurposed existing gas transportation network and be permanently sequestered into depleted gas fields in Liverpool Bay, as part of the HyNet industrial decarbonisation cluster in the North West of England.

US election 2024: Kamala Harris has her hand on India's raw nerve
Indian Americans are in the spotlight in the US presidential election. Pro-Trump Vivek Ramaswamy and Usha Chilukuri Vance, the wife of Republican Party vice-presidential nominee JD Vance, have created waves in the media. But the focus of Indian Americans is Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, a Baptist Christian married to a Jew who was born to a Jamaican-born father and an Indian-born mother. Many see the possible victory of Harris as a victory of American Indians, even though Harris rarely talks about her Indian roots.

SME market like a casino? Sebi should talk it down & regulate only in case of fraud: Sunil Subramaniam
Sunil Subramaniam, Market Expert, says that speculation is part of a healthy capital market. It is only when you have these speculative entities like these people come in, that there is liquidity in the market. But if you regulate them and take them out, overall as a market, the liquidity is going to shrink. Should the regulator step in on the valuations? Subramaniam thinks that is right because there is no golden rule on what should be the right valuation. The market is the best determinant. So, unless there is clear evidence of fraud, some price fixing, rigging, or some false news put across which makes the share price go up, Sebi shouldn’t put in any regulation. The SME market is almost like a casino now. It does not feel like a stock market. Sunil Subramaniam: I fully agree with you. The reason for this is also related to the rampant futures and options situation. Demat accounts are going up. Post-COVID, youth with a lot of time on their hands, armed with internet and technology hands, are treating the stock market like a gambling den. There are no two ways about it. We do not have other options for gambling. We can see similar kinds of success when it comes to Dream11 and those kinds of sports-related apps. Despite all Sebi restrictions, financial influencers (fin fluencers) play a big part. It is like a get-rich-quick scheme. Booking gains from these IPOs show their intent. They are not investors. They are speculators.

China to launch anti-dumping probes into Canadian canola, chemicals
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last month announced tariffs of 100 percent on Chinese EVs, accusing Beijing of «not playing by the same rules as other countries» in areas like environmental and labour standards. The United States and the European Union have also respectively slapped tariffs of 100 percent and 36 percent on Chinese EVs, arguing that Beijing unfairly subsidises domestic producers whose products then flood foreign markets and undercut local competitors.

Why SME IPO investors need to tread carefully? Neeraj Dewan explains
«So, some will burn their fingers and some, based on the awareness exercise, will become aware and start investing in more high-quality names rather than investing in any other second IPO which is coming,» says Neeraj Dewan, Market Expert. Let us get a comment from you also going on this SME hullabaloo. Some are calling it casino, some are calling it gambling den, some are calling in Hindi juye ka adda. What is happening there? Neeraj Dewan: Definitely the kind of frenzy which is there and we have seen these cases of small companies getting 100x, 200x, 400x kind of subscription amounts. So, one has to be careful, but what can be done according to what I understand is that there should be some awareness exercise which can be initiated, whether it is the regulator or whether it is the market experts, whether it is the media channels.

Hold IPO stocks with good potential for long term to maximise returns: Neeraj Dewan
«So, keeping that in mind if one gets an entry into an IPO stock, which has a good potential, it is always better rather than churning every week to hold on to the stock and make that wealth which is generated over period,» says Neeraj Dewan, Market Expert. Starting off by just maybe getting in your thoughts as well on the kind of commentary that has been made or the kind of reveal due to the SEBI study with respect to the fact that nearly 54% of the allotted IPO shares, this is excluding the anchor investors, are sold in just a week and they are talking about how we need to be a good doctor to companies, do not prescribe steroids, they say when paracetamol will suffice. Just wanted to get in your thoughts on the study reveal. Neeraj Dewan: Yes, actually there is so much of paper availability and money flow has to be rotated.

Is it a good time to buy NBFCs in the near term? Pashupati Advani answers
«So, the HNIs are licking their wounds and only the index seems to have done super well. So, let us see, I mean, we are all here, we are all in the market, we are not going to give up and go away. I think people look at India as a global story. It is fantastic. But I do not agree with some of those sectors,» says Pashupati Advani, pashupatiadvani@globalforay Nifty at an all-time high, but a lot of stocks which matter to the viewers, a lot of HNI stocks, a lot of retail stocks, retail-dominated stocks, they have corrected 5%, 10%, 15%, even 30%. Is the bull market over? Pashupati Advani: I think we are looking for cues to move forward and I think that there do not seem to be any that we can see. So, there is a sectoral shift because obviously people like India as a whole, they just want to be in the right thing, so you are seeing little nibbles in things like obviously insurance, but this thing real estate, the auto pack is a little bit over. People are looking at defensives.

Trump says he had 'every right' to interfere in 2020 election
Trump, who faces federal and state charges for allegedly trying to overturn his 2020 election loss to President Joe Biden, insists he had «every right» to interfere in the election. «Whoever heard you get indicted for interfering with a presidential election where you have every right to do it?» Trump said in a Fox News interview that aired on Sunday. A federal indictment accuses Trump of defrauding the United States by preventing Congress from certifying Biden's victory and depriving voters of their right to a fair election. He faced a revised federal indictment last month accusing him of illegally trying to overturn his 2020 election loss.

Delhi High Court quashes final tax assessments for MNCs, citing violations of Income Tax Act procedures
MNCs, including Microsoft India, Sumitomo Corporation India and AT Kearney India, the Delhi High Court on Monday quashed the final tax assessment orders that were passed against them without there being any draft assessment orders as mandated under Section 144C of the Income Tax Act 1961. It further said that the final assessment orders if framed after the prescribed time under Section 153 of the Act had expired are liable to be quashed on that ground additionally. Failure to frame a draft assessment order by the assessing officer would “clearly be violative of the mandatory prescriptions of Section 144C and the final order of assessment framed in violation thereof is liable to be viewed as a nullity,” a Division Bench comprising justices Yashwant Varma and Ravinder Dudeja said.

Power to arrest must be directly proportional to its checks and balances: Delhi court to ED
bail to an accused in a money laundering case and said that the power to arrest must be directly proportional to its checks and balances coupled with unambiguous regulations. Granting bail to Mangelal Sunil Agarwal, Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Dheeraj Mor noted that in a «very unpleasant situation», while the previous investigating officer had cited him as a witness, the next IO chose to arrest him based on the same evidence available on record. «The hallmark of investigation is its objectivity. Subjective interpretation of IO must be deprecated as it would make a supposed objective investigation dependent upon his uncontrolled whims and fancies, who has been conferred extreme power of arrest that leads to curtailing liberty of an individual,» the judge said in the order passed on August 31. «In these circumstances, it is apparent that one of the lOs was/is wrong and either acted upon the considerations extraneous to law for the reasons to be ascertained or he was incompetent to comprehend the facts of the case in proper perspective.
