A welcome to arms, it's really all about literary swagger
sword. But for some writers, both objects hold equal fascination. Take Amir Khusrau and Babur. Or Samudragupta from an earlier time. Or Valmiki if we go mythological, who is said to have been the fierce bandit Ratnakar, adept with the bow and arrow before taking up the quill. 19th century French poet Arthur Rimbaud, who would become, among other things, a gunrunner in the Horn of Africa, found the calling to be much more lucrative and satisfying than writing poetry. What fascinates most writers with the pen and the sword — or its modern avatars, laptop and gun — is that both can be used to right a wrong or commit a wrong. Both assure its owner that he or she is well protected. When you see a wrong committed, you could write a story, poem or report about it. Or air your grievances on social media. Sometimes you could just take out your Mauser and point it at the mob about to lynch a man, fire a few rounds in air, to disperse them. The effect of the gunshot is immediate. A good write-up may take days, even weeks, a poem or story years to gain ground.

hand painted or hand embroidered, they would have been a family secret of the Ghatge royal women — a princess lovingly embellishing the clothes of her loved ones. But thanks to cricketer Zaheer Khan's astute business sense, it turned into a homegrown "slow luxury" brand, 'Akutee'. «Hand painted embellishments have been part of my childhood, my mum's been doing this for so long that I took it for granted. OpenAI dissolves high-profile safety team after chief scientist Ilya Sutskever’s exit
OpenAI has effectively dissolved a team focused on ensuring the safety of possible future ultra-capable artificial intelligence systems, following the departure of the group’s two leaders, including OpenAI co-founder and chief scientist, Ilya Sutskever. Rather than maintain the so-called superalignment team as a standalone entity, OpenAI is now integrating the group more deeply across its research efforts to help the company achieve its safety goals, the company told Bloomberg News. The team was formed less than a year ago under the leadership of Sutskever and Jan Leike, another OpenAI veteran.

Donald Trump wants to control the Justice Department and FBI. His allies have a plan
WASHINGTON: Some of Donald Trump's allies are assembling proposals to curtail the Justice Department's independence and turn the nation's top law enforcement body into an attack dog for conservative causes, nine people involved in the effort told Reuters. If successful, the overhaul could represent one of the most consequential actions of a second Trump presidency given the Justice Department's role in protecting democratic institutions and upholding the rule of law.

BJP questions Kejriwal’s silence, alleges he should be directly held responsible for allowing attack on Swati Maliwal
BJP alleged on Friday that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should be held directly responsible for the reported attack on AAP Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal and questioned his silence on the issue. The party said instead of taking action against his aide and accused Bibhav Kumar, Kejriwal is moving around with him. In an interaction with the media, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman described the alleged attack on Maliwal as “unbelievable and unacceptable” and wondered how the chief minister could be expected to protect the women of Delhi if his own MP who was also the Delhi Commission for Women chief. “Kejriwal has not spoken a single word till today. No comparison can be made between this case and other assaults on women. It took place in the chief minister’s own house, when the chief minister was present and by a man who is considered the right hand of the chief minister. The Delhi Commission for Women chairperson was attacked. The Delhi CM does not have the confidence to make a statement. He should apologise,” Sitharaman said.
