markets FIVE economy wellness Equality rights International 'Vedanta promoters to maintain 50% stake in each of demerged entities': Anil Agarwal
Vedanta Ltd's promoters will maintain over 50% stake in each of its demerged entities, as the focus remains on creating pure-play companies which will be better placed to capitalise opportunities, the group's chairman said. The mining conglomerate is looking to demerge its businesses — aluminium, oil & gas, power and steel- as separate entities. At present, these businesses are subsumed within Vedanta Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of UK-based Vedanta Resources. «We realised that most of our businesses are sitting under a large banyan tree structure, that is Vedanta. It is better to take them out and allow them to grow in the sun,» Vedanta Resources chairman Anil Agarwal told ET during an interaction. There is no need for a stake sale for cutting debt at the holding company level, he said. «We are very comfortable with our shareholding levels and have no plans to pare down our promoter stake in any way. Equally, we have no plans to increase our stake in any of the companies that will be demerged,» he said, explaining that the company is sufficiently funded to manage affairs through internal accruals. But it is open to selling the steel business if a «right price» is offered.

Provident Citizens Aware Action WhatsApp information rights Risk losing inheritance if parents, seniors not cared for, says Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda
Krishna Byre Gowda on Wednesday. Under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, by the central government, any will or gift deed made in favor of neglectful children can be legally revoked, he said while speaking in the Legislative Council. «In recent times, we have seen a growing number of cases where elderly parents are left without care,» Gowda said while responding to a question from Balkees Banu, a member of the council. " If children or relatives neglect their elderly parents, the seniors have the legal right to revoke any will or gift deed made in their name,” he added. The Central Government enacted the law in 2007, but awareness remains low, the minister noted. The legislation mandates that children or relatives must provide financial and medical support to senior citizens. If they fail to do so, elderly parents can file a complaint under Section 9, after which authorities can take action. “If a complaint is proven, and children or relatives who have inherited property fail to take care of their parents, Section 23 allows for the cancellation of any will or gift deed made in their favor, restoring ownership to the parents,’ Gowda informed. The responsibility for handling these cases lies with the sub-divisional officers. The revenue minister stressed that thousands of such cases are already being heard by the officers

markets UPS Sustainability wellness show travelers rights Varun Goel on 3 themes one can invest in this market
Varun Goel, Senior Fund Manager, Mirae Asset Investment Managers, says the lending space definitely looks attractive, both banks and NBFCs. Secondly, export-oriented sectors, be it IT and pharma, should do well. There has been a significant depreciation in the rupee, which will definitely boost the margins of a lot of these exporting companies. Low-ticket discretionary items in India should also show a good bounce back as the benefit of tax cuts start showing the impact. So, there are a lot of sectors which should see good earnings growth coming back in FY26 and they are selectively participating in those spaces. How are you assessing the market construct right now with so many moving parts at play? The US equity market correction has just begun. We are seeing a reversal in the dollar as well, which typically has never been the case because in a risk of a scenario, you actually see the dollar hold up. But that is not really the case right now and of course, emerging markets are a bit of a divided construct as well, if you will. Varun Goel: As far as Indian markets are concerned, a cyclical slowdown has been playing out for the last six to nine months and it appears that growth is incrementally going to get better.

markets COST Strategy economy wellness shock rights We will deploy cash in largecaps on another 10% dip; comfortable with BFSI, IT: Chirag Mehta
Chirag Mehta, CIO, Quantum AMC, says small and midcaps are still a bit expensive and there could be some more current downsides because of the high valuations that prevail in those segments. From a largecap perspective, some pockets of opportunity are starting to emerge. But on a broader basis, there could be some more downside from here on and would give a good opportunity to deploy further into the markets. Mehta also says in the case of IT, on a holistic basis, there could be near-term jitters, but from a medium to long-term perspective, we are still comfortable with what Indian IT services can deliver. What is your take on the markets right now? We are seeing of late that India is witnessing a bit of a recovery, but it is the global peers that are under pressure. Has the majority of the selling for Indian markets already happened and maybe it is time to look out for some of the opportunities in this market or do you believe that there could be some more pain in store? Chirag Mehta: Yes, India was doing well in terms of economic growth over the last two years on a relative basis and also the market was reflecting that. But markets got carried away in terms of valuations that they were prevailing in across the segment and more so in the mid and smallcap segment given the flows to that segment were very high.

What is it that you have made of these discrepancies in their accounting balances, estimating an adverse impact of nearly about 2.35% on their net worth as of December 2024. We have of course seen the stock take quite a bit of hit yesterday itself when Sumant Kathpalia’s extension got shortened to one year and not three years. But other than that, now that it seems that in the interim IndusInd Bank is not going to be really the preferred one, which of the private banking names do you prefer right now if you were looking to add positions in this current market? Deven Choksey: It is a challenging activity business-wise for most of the banks.
