Centre's financial restrictions threaten cooperative federalism, says Kerala Finance Minister K N Balagopal
Kerala Finance Minister K N Balagopal said that the financial disparities imposed by the BJP-led Union Government on Kerala go beyond politics, posing a significant challenge to cooperative federalism, and called on the Central government to ensure fair treatment for all states. «The BJP-led Union Government's financial discrimination against Kerala is not just a political slogan but a question of cooperative federalism, and it is the duty of the Central government to protect the interests of the states,» the minister told PTI in an interview on Monday night. Balagopal, who has been challenging the BJP-led Centre for its alleged discrimination against Kerala on financial matters for quite some time, said that the issue has now been raised by other non-BJP ruled states, including Congress-ruled Karnataka, as the states are feeling strangled by the Centre.

Still have plans for listing diagnostics business but not in the near term: Sriram Iyer, Apollo Health & Lifestyle
Sriram Iyer, CEO, Apollo Health & Lifestyle, says “more than 80% of the diagnostics market is still unorganised, less than 20% is between the national and the regional players. There is definitely headroom for growth and the prospects look brighter and the awareness is really going up. Preventive health check is becoming the key now and there is a lot of work happening in the healthcare space for consumers to become more aware.” Given the lots of tugs and pulls and a wrestling of a larger share volume that continues to remain high, the price competition may have cooled off a tad. What is your diagnosis of the industry as a whole? Sriram Iyer: So, as rightly said, the prospects are quite good for the industry. There are two things. Obviously, the penetration of healthcare is quite low. Diagnostic is the first point of really getting checked before you get into further treatments in healthcare.

Investment in manufacturing, EV, pushing Indian gears to compete globally: American Gear Manufacturers Association
electric vehicles and aerospace market in the last few years has been on the rise, with a marked increase in volume and quality of high precision gears being exported from the country, American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) president President Matthew Croson told ET. Increased investment towards the manufacturing sector, both from government and private players, he added, was a major contributor towards this. “At the end of the day, you can't make the gears at the level without new equipment, and well trained people that can work those machines. Our member companies from India are doing a great job of demonstrating quality that’s coming out of India right now,” he said. AGMA, which has been accredited to write the US standards on gearing, counts 17 Indian companies among its members. A major emerging trend in the gear industry worldwide, Croson said, was vehicle electrification. “We've learned that because of the NVH, the noise and the volume, the vibration, and some of the issues there, electric vehicles need high precision gears. It requires new education and training, and we’re providing classes from our organisation for this…it is a net positive for the industry,” he said.

Wait for a dip to buy Tata Chemicals; see value in PSU banks: Vishal Malkan
Vishal Malkan, Malkansview.com, says: “I will go with the flavour of the week which is PSU banks which are doing well, like Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda. My favourite is PNB which has broken above that resistance of 125; closing above that, would be a good sign and we can look at targets of Rs 135, 140 and 145 in the next few trading sessions. Another stock which is doing well today is AB Capital.” Bank Nifty seems to be coming out of a slumber. There was a bit of a breakout. But today again, the market has tempered a bit. What is your view at the index level right now? Vishal Malkan: I will first go with the Nifty part, which has given a good breakout above that 22,200 in the last few trading sessions, sustaining above that, holding on to those levels. It looks like we can have further upside up to 22,700 odd. But as far as Bank Nifty is concerned, there is a slight kind of resistance which is not working out well, which is around 48,000, which was created in the last fall when there was a gap down, there is a big resistance. Once it crosses 48,000, then only we can look for fresh highs in Bank Nifty. Apart from that, stock specific, there are a lot of ideas where we can have decent returns.

Mining company can't tap water needed for Okefenokee wildlife refuge, US says
Okefenokee Swamp and its vast wildlife refuge, setting up a new battle with a mining company seeking permits to withdraw more than 1.4 million gallons daily for a project that critics say could irreparably harm one of America's natural treasures.
