In India, young revving up demand for Lamborghini: Stephan Winkelmann
Young, aspiring Indians are among customers driving volumes at Italian supercar maker Lamborghini, which posted record sales last year, global chief executive Stephan Winkelmann told ET. Its signature, wedge-shaped sports car is one of the fastest production vehicles available to the seriously wealthy and the marque is seeing demand not only from buyers in the country, but also Indians in the US, Europe and Southeast Asia, where they have second homes, he said. Winkelmann, on his first visit to the country in 10 years, said the improvement in India's infrastructure has «surprised» him. He's also excited that women are increasingly gravitating toward the brand, even in India. The consumer mood in the country is buoyant and if the tax regime continues to remain stable, opportunities to expand sales are robust, he said. «There have been a lot of changes and in terms of infrastructure — this is striking immediately. And for sure, also in our type of business now; the car industry has exploded,» he said. «We think that everybody is in the right place to do business and we have grown as Lamborghini, which is very positive… I think we're very well-positioned.»

Strengthening partnership with India should be cornerstone of Europe's foreign policy: Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis
global peace and security and bolstering partnership with it should be the cornerstone of Europe's foreign policy, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Wednesday. In an address at the inaugural session of the Raisina Dialogue, Mitsotakis described the conflict in Ukraine as much more than a «local war on European soil» and that it is a «brutal challenge» to international stability and the rules-based order that India has supported. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, foreign ministers from a number of countries and a galaxy of strategic affairs experts and academicians attended the session. When it comes to shaping global debates and addressing great challenges, India is now often regarded, and rightly so, as a consensus builder and a voice of reason in an increasingly polarised world, the Greek prime minister said.

Industry leaders resent Karnataka's diktat to MNCs to display number of Kannadigas on their rolls
Karnataka government’s latest direction, asking multinationals to declare the number of Kannadigas they employ, has surprised sections of industry in the state. Calling the policy “intrusive” and “discriminatory”, former Infosys board member TV Mohandas Pai told ET that it could leave companies open to the risk of vandalism in the name of linguistic pride. “IT companies require talent. They hire people on the basis of open tests and don’t discriminate. If a Kannadiga candidate passes the test, they too get selected,” Pai, who is the chairman of venture capital fund Aarin Capital Partners, said. Karnataka, he added, has historically had a very open culture, especially in Bengaluru, and policies like this — which can cause hooliganism — create a perception of a government that is unable to protect its people.

In next couple of days, opportunities may show up in private banks: Rohit Srivastava
Rohit Srivastava, Strike Money Analytics & Indiacharts, says there are two segments to look for: weakest and strongest. The two weakest sectors in the market right now are FMCG and private banks based on the data from 1st of February to now. So that comes to the forefront in terms of looking at weakness developing all over again. We have seen some short-term bounce back in individual stocks. Not really recommending anything but we have seen HDFC Bank do that. We have seen ICICI Bank go back towards the highs. We look for where the breakdowns start showing up within private banks in the next couple of days and that is where the opportunities may be.” What is the setup looking like? Let us talk clearly about Nifty, Bank Nifty first and then we will talk about areas of the market which are interesting to you. How does the Nifty, Bank Nifty setup look right now? Rohit Srivastava: While the Nifty may have made a new closing high, if I go to a slightly broader index like a Nifty 500 and take the highs of January-February, then we actually have not gone past that. At this point of time, possibly this will end up being a false breakout. We are not taking it as a serious break to new highs indicating that you started a fresh rally and so on.
