markets COST Target Strategy wellness performer rights What were the drivers for Poonawalla Fincorp’s best ever performance? Abhay Bhutada answers
Abhay Bhutada, MD, Poonawalla Fincorp, says “in the last eight quarters, there is a consistent performance in terms of disbursement as well as AUM growth. The most important thing here is that the base is very low. It is easy to achieve this number. And we have given a guidance of 35-40%. Considering the current base, I think in the future, we will stick to our guidance of 35-40%. The focus will be on to achieve the asset quality, maintaining superior profitability and at the same time maintain this 35 to 40% AUM growth. The one thing that struck the most was your highest ever quarterly disbursement figure, highest ever profit, lowest NPA and GNPAs. Before getting into details, what were the drivers for this kind of growth especially at a time when some are saying that the environment is showing some slowdown in the lending space? Abhay Bhutada: See, this is the outcome of efforts of the last 2.5 years. Post-acquisition, we have clearly articulated our strategy. Our chosen segment is pre-owned car, loan against property, personal loan, business loan, supply chain finance, machinery loan, medical equipment loan, consumer finance. The segment which we are targeting is a very different kind of segment. It is a combination of FinTech, bank, and NBFC.

markets UPS show performer patient rights No longer-term concerns in many small, midcaps; maintaining 15-20% cash to buy on dips: Sandip Sabharwal
Sandip Sabharwal, asksandipsabharwal.com, says “the consumption slowdown is a reality and when it will bottom is tough to say. But normally, it tends to bottom once inflation gets stabilized and then there is a pickup. Hopefully from this quarter, we see some signs of a pickup that could continue into 2024.” The markets went up, ignored all the worries and now the reality is just dawning on us. It is the other way around. Sandip Sabharwal: I think the reality of what is dawning is that the results which were expected might not be as good as what people were expecting. And that is what we have seen with the largecap technology results, which excited a lot of people, but I think the worry is out there and next year will not be as good as what people expect. Then we had insurance companies, which also disappointed and HDFC Bank. Now IndusInd Bank's results are slightly different from HDFC Bank in that they were able to maintain their NIMs but then there is some stress on the balance sheet, so they use their contingency reserves to show better results. The markets overall, are fully priced in a sense. We need some sort of value correction, some sort of time correction, for the markets to become healthy overall for a patient investor.

Provident Food poverty country reports rights Congress questions '250 million out of poverty' claim
Congress on Thursday questioned the Modi government's claim that 250 million people in the country were alleviated from poverty in the last nine years. If the claim was right, why did not the consumption rate increase and why did the Centre still provide free food to crores of people, the main Opposition party asked. Disputing the projection and pointing out that private consumption growth had slowed down to 4.4% this fiscal, compared to 7.1% last fiscal, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate alleged that the government claim on decreasing poverty could be a «conspiracy to deny poor the safety net» provided by the government. Questioning Niti Ayog's finding that 248.2 million people were brought out of poverty, she said: «Why are these people not consuming daily essential items like soap, shampoo, oil and biscuits? Why are companies like HUL, ITC and Britannia reporting muted sales.

COST Cooper economy Trade country social rights The world confronts four major economic challenges right now
Another tumultuous year has confirmed that the global economy is at a turning point. We face four big challenges: a climate transition, good-jobs problem, an economic-development crisis and the search for a newer, healthier form of globalization. To address each, we must leave behind established modes of thinking and seek creative workable solutions, while recognizing that these efforts will be necessarily uncoordinated and experimental.
