Supreme Court's order granting bail to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is expected to accelerate the Delhi government's functioning, even as the top court imposed certain conditions for his release, officials said on Friday. AAP asserted in a statement that Kejriwal was «fully empowered» to give directions to all his ministers so that work could be done in public interest. Kejriwal heads the council of ministers and oversees all governance through the ministers of various departments, the party said in a statement. The chief minister, who had promised to implement the «Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana» for providing a monthly honorarium of Rs 1,000 to women above 18 years, can launch the scheme ahead of the assembly polls, due early next year.

Passenger vehicle wholesales dip 2 pc in August as OEMs cut dispatches

Two-wheeler wholesales rose 9 per cent to 17,11,662 units last month against 15,66,594 units in the year-ago period, it added. Scooter dispatches last month climbed to 6,06,250 units from 5,49,290 units in August 2023, a growth of 10 per cent.

Hilton Public School in Amroha for allegedly bringing non-vegetarian biryani in his lunchbox, will be transferred to a new school along with his two siblings. The decision comes after their mother opted to move them to another institution, with the education department covering the cost of their enrolment. Hilton Public School has also agreed to waive the outstanding fees of Rs 37,000. Following an administrative inquiry on Tuesday, the principal was cleared of any wrongdoing, with officials stating that the viral video of the incident had been «edited.» Despite this, the school management has removed the principal from the position while an internal investigation is still ongoing. Amroha's District Inspector of Schools (DIOS), Vishnu Pratap Singh, confirmed that the government is facilitating the transfer process. «We’ve spoken with both the school management and the boy’s mother, and both have agreed to the transfer. The education department is working to ensure the children are enrolled in a new school, and once the transfer certificates are issued, the process will move forward,» he said.

Madhya Pradesh: Two junior Army officers attacked; women friend gangraped
Army officers and their female friends were attacked by a group of men who gang-raped one of the women at gunpoint near the historic Jam Gate. Commenting on the incident, Additional SP Rupesh Dwivedi said on Wednesday night that six suspects had been identified, two of whom have been detained from the jungles. Both Army officers were injured in the mob attack. One of them managed to dial his senior officers but by the time police arrived from Mhow, 30km away, the woman had already been gang-raped. The two Armymen are undergoing the Young Officers course at Infantry School, Mhow, SP Rural Hitika Vasal said. According to the complaint filed by one of the lieutenants, the four of them had driven to Ahilya Gate near Jam Gate on Mhow-Mandleshwar road on Tuesday night.

Carrier aims to repeat its China 'localization' strategy in India: Saif Siddiqui
Air conditioning company Carrier wants to repeat its China playbook in India by adopting a similar strategy, according to a top executive. “Our strategy is to be in India for the long run,” said Saif Siddiqui, president-APAC at Carrier. “We have been in India for 40 years. We have been in China for many, many decades. We have localised to a large extent in China. In fact, the playbook we are talking in India, we have lived it in China in terms of supplier ecosystem localisation and investing in both R&D and manufacturing to get ourselves the local market.” The Florida-based company plans to invest $800 million in India in the next five years, topping up a $1 billion investment made over the past decade, chief executive officer David Gitlin had told ET in October.

Essel Infra faces insolvency on J&K Bank's application
bankruptcy court Wednesday admitted Jammu and Kashmir Bank's application to initiate insolvency proceedings against Essel Infraprojects Ltd, a company promoted by media baron Subhash Chandra, over what the lender claimed was an 'established case' of default. The Mumbai bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), while admitting the company, has also appointed Hemant J Mehta as interim resolution professional (IRP). The private-sector lender had approached the tribunal after the Essel Group entity defaulted on its dues of ₹87.43 crore. «The financial debt is due and payable by the corporate debtor (Essel Infraprojects) as on the date of filing the present company petition,» observed the division bench of judicial member Reeta Kohli and technical member Madhu Sinha in its order. «Further, there is admission of default and outstanding liability by the corporate debtor in various correspondences annexed to the company petition,» it added.
