Risk-reward out of favour but a collapse less likely in pre-election week: Anand James
Even though risk reward is quickly appearing out of favour, a collapse is less likely this week, says Anand James, Chief Market Strategist, Geojit Financial Services. “Downside marker may be placed at 22983, for an aggressive positioning, with further support seen at 22800,” he says. Edited excerpts from a chat: How have Nifty charts changed after recording two back-to-back weekly gains? What are the odds of a correction now in the pre-election week and the monthly expiry? Anand James: About a week to go for the big day. In 2019, Nifty had fallen over 6% from the recent peak as it was about to enter the last week before elections results were announced. And with that fall, VIX which had been steadily rising from 15 would reach a peak of 28.65, before starting to ease in the week before results. In stark contrast, we are already at record peak, with chart patterns continuing to point further north, towards 23200-23350. And, VIX at 22, while not as high as what was prevailing in the similar period of 2019, is at its highest this year. But, what is more striking this time is that volatility has been persistent and VIX has been holding steady in the vicinity of or above 20 for nine days.

Bengaluru's Incluzza helps Google bring accessible gaming closer home
Project Gameface, an open source, hands-free, on-device, AI-powered ‘mouse’ developed by Google, was designed through feedback from Incluzza, a social enterprise in Bengaluru that supports people with disabilities. Gameface allows users to control a cursor on a phone, computer or tablet with head movements and facial expressions via a webcam. Users can for example raise their eyebrows to click and drag or open their mouth to move the cursor. “We collaborated with Incluzza to learn how Project Gameface can be expanded to educational, work, and other settings, like being able to type messages to family or searching for new jobs,” said Avneet Singh, product manager, Google Partner Innovation, at an international press briefing and demo on May 14 on the sidelines of Google I/O in Mountain View, California.

Utpal Sheth on how buy, hold and sell work for a terminal value investor
Utpal Sheth, Senior Partner & CEO, Rare Enterprises, and Co-Founder & Mentor, Trust Group, says one needs both conviction and courage to be able to buy. After having bought, given that you have a 10-year plus time horizon, you have this long journey of hold. What is it that you need to hold? You need not just patience, but also equanimity to hold. The sell decision is very rare for a terminal value investor but it has to be taken at the right time. On Terminal Value Investing Utpal Sheth: Terminal value investing is a very powerful concept in my mind. And let me start with a very elementary process. The investment process has three distinct components — buy, hold and sell. This is known to everybody. However, bear in mind that when you buy, you are buying at time T0 at the price prevailing at time T0.
