Knee-deep in smallcaps? It’s time you rebalanced your portfolio
Swarup Mohanty, Vice Chairman & CEO, Mirae Asset Global Investments, says “every fund manager will ask you to buy a good company at a good price. You have to decide how much of your portfolio is invested in good companies and the good companies are invariably the larger companies which have more from a balance sheet stability perspective. So, if you have bought more of the smaller companies, it is time to rebalance and that would be the right way of going ahead.” Good to see that despite the kind of volatility that we have seen in the stock markets, the SIP data continues unabated. What is your own expectation of what the next realistic target should be for the SIP figures on a monthly basis? Swarup Mohanty: It has become the go-to way of investing broadly for Indians. It is such a wonderful process of investing. It does allow investors to catch volatility like this and then over a period of time, the rupee cost averaging does set in. So, the process of investing through SIP is always the disciplined way and hence I think more and more Indians are catching on to it, 19,200 per month as we speak. My figure for December 2024 is 25,000. I do not see any stoppage of this at all. So, yes, I mean, great to be at the receiving end of the SIP flows.

After Museum Gallery, Adani Group to fund policy thinktank
Adani Group plans to set up a think tank that will aid policy thinking in three critical areas — energy transition and climate change, economics and trade, and geopolitics and strategic affairs, according to people familiar with the development, who said the unit might be kicked off as early as May. The think tank will be called Chintan Research Foundation and will be incubated with an initial funding of ₹100 crore. This move pitches the infrastructure conglomerate in direct competition with RIL-backed Observer Research Foundation or ORF, a think tank that took shape in 1990. ORF, based in New Delhi, has emerged in recent years as one of India's most high-profile thinktanks.

What is your sense? Has it bottomed out because for the longest time speciality chemicals have been dealing with one headwind or another. Finally, is there light at the end of the road? Yes, first of all, you are absolutely right that the speciality chemical sector has been quite a lot of disappointment for their investors in last four to six quarters. The sector has not participated in the entire rally while we are seeing that the midcaps and smallcaps are making new highs. This sector has definitely not performed well.

Here's why Vishal Malkan is bullish on metal sector
«I think if you look at the overall market rally in the last one year, it has been very sector specific,» says Vishal Malkan, malkansview.com. What do you make of this? Do you think this breakout is something that can take us to much higher levels or do you see that perhaps there is a bit of a buying fatigue at play, people are waiting by for the earnings to set in? What is your view for the index in the very immediate term, let us say one week? I think the way Nifty has been performing above that 22,700 mark is commendable. It is staying above that with volumes and there is broad participation also from midcaps and the big banks, as well as the metal sector.
