ESG reporting witnesses increase in global variance
US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) last week stayed the first-of-its-kind climate disclosure rules pending judicial review and amid a political backlash. The rules, adopted a month earlier, had taken two years to pass a pared down version and required public companies to disclose extensive climate change-related information in their regulatory filings. This development comes three months after China unveiled its ESG rules requiring companies to publish sustainability reports by 2026. In a significant move, the Supreme Court of India in a ruling released last week expanded the scope of Articles 14 and 21 to include the 'right against the adverse effects of climate change'.

Opposition pushing India towards instability: PM Modi
Ayodhya Ram temple issue to reach out to the tribal community in Chhattisgarh, alleging that the Congress opposed the consecration ceremony for appeasement politics. He also slammed the Congress on the Naxal issue at a rally in Chandrapur, Maharashtra. "Ram Navami is not very far. This time in Ayodhya our Ram Lalla will not give darshan in a tent but in a grand temple. But Congress and INDI alliance is very unhappy about this. They declined the invitation for pran pratishta. The Shahi pariwar of Congress threw out those leaders who declared this wrong. This shows Congress can cross any limit for appeasement politics," Modi said at a rally in Bastar. The PM emphasised that welfare of tribals has always been a top priority for BJP. He said a tribal is the president of India today and a record number of Eklavya schools for tribals have come up during his tenure. «Our priority has always been garib kalyan… Congress always ignored the welfare of the poor,» he said.

Google's contemplated mega deal would prompt new fight with regulators
Google parent Alphabet's contemplated acquisition of marketing software company HubSpot would likely spark opposition from regulators even as many experts agree it would not curb competition, and would require the technology giant to open a new front in its battle with antitrust watchdogs. Reuters reported last week that Google was mulling an offer for HubSpot, which has a market value of $34 billion. Google has been weighing the antitrust risks of a potential deal and has yet to decide if it will make an offer.
