Israel unveils tunnels underneath Gaza City headquarters of UN agency for Palestinian refugees
Israeli military says it has discovered tunnels underneath the main headquarters of the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees in Gaza City, alleging that Hamas militants used the space as an electrical supply room. The unveiling of the tunnels marked the latest chapter in Israel's campaign against the embattled agency, which it accuses of collaborating with Hamas. Recent Israeli allegations that a dozen staff members participated in the Hamas attack on Israel Oct. 7 plunged the agency into a financial crisis, prompting major donor states to suspend their funding as well as twin investigations. The agency says that Israel has also frozen its bank account, embargoed aid shipments and canceled its tax benefits. The army invited journalists to view the tunnel on Thursday.

young workers prioritise work-life-balance over being a chief executive, said Tapan Singhel, chief executive, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance at the summit on Saturday during a panel discussion on «Power Shifts to Profits: The Age of Meritocracy». «Being a CEO is not their (young people's) life anymore,» he added, and there has been a generational transition from the concept of "work is worship" towards work-life balance. He mentioned Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy's comments on working 70 hours a week, while pointing out that developed countries like Germany are experimenting with a four-day work week. «Most young workers consider work life balance important, » Singhel said.

How companies say ‘layoffs’ without saying ‘layoffs’
career event” recently? Perhaps you were a casualty of “corporate outplacing,” the unfortunate, yet ostensibly necessary result of your company “rightsizing.” Managers are running out of ways to say you no longer have a job. Layoffs in the first month of 2024 have left tens of thousands in the United States without jobs, with the tech industry alone cutting 32,000 roles. The way the bad news is delivered is more important than ever, as companies fear being canceled on social media after a poorly executed final conversation. Executives are using all kinds of euphemisms to avoid being straightforward with their employees.

Morning Coffee: The Goldman Sachs analyst who worked at a supermarket to meet real people. Banks are heading for a crisis that only boomers will recognise
It’s pretty unusual to find a junior investment banker in a supermarket at the weekend. This is partly because it’s unusual to find a junior investment banker anywhere outside the office at the weekend, but also because if they do have some free time, they’ll usually spend it doing something more glamorous. Mohammed Zina is apparently built different. When he joined Goldman Sachs in 2014, he kept his weekend job at Sainsbury’s.

Adani central to India's economic ambitions, says US-based analyst
Gautam Adani's sprawling conglomerate is core to India's ambitions to become the world's third-largest economy by 2030, as it plays a key role across the infrastructure sector, US-based Cantor Fitzgerald & Co said in a note. Adani Enterprises Ltd, the group's flagship company, can deliver a gain of more than 50 per cent, analysts Brett Knoblauch and Thomas Shinske wrote in a note dated January 28, initiating coverage of the company. «India is now the most populous country in the world and has ambitions to be the world's third-largest economy by 2030. To get there, India needs to invest in both digital and physical infrastructure, in addition to increasing its energy production, as energy consumption will be meaningfully higher,» the US-based broker said.
