Trudeau’s Liberals set to face 3rd Conservative non-confidence vote
third Conservative non-confidence vote on Monday, but the government is likely to survive with the support of the NDP.Members of Parliament are supposed to vote on a motion that quotes NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh’s criticism of the Liberals and asks the House to agree with Singh and vote to bring down the government.Singh said last week he is not going to support the Conservatives, so the motion will likely fail. The House is also supposed to vote on an NDP motion calling on the government to expand the GST break and the $250 “working Canadians rebate” to fully retired seniors and people who rely on disability benefits. Those votes will come after MPs deal with a debate on a point of privilege raised by Conservative deputy leader Melissa Lantsman on Friday. As opposition parties continue to use procedural tactics to stall one another’s motions, the House is facing a deadline on Tuesday to vote to approve billions of dollars in government spending.Treasury Board President Anita Anand has asked Parliament for approval of $21.6 billion to fund programs including housing, dental care and the national school food program. If that doesn’t pass, some programs could face a cash shortfall, including veteran benefits and natural disaster assistance. The spending request is set to go to a debate and vote late Tuesday. The final two opposition motions of the year also need to be introduced before Tuesday.

King Charles III reveals the one thing that made him nervous at his coronation
King Charles III has admitted that he feels «slightly anxious» when wearing the St Edward's Crown during formal occasions, expressing concern that the heavy crown might «wobble.» Speaking in the upcoming documentary Coronation Girls, the King described the crown as weighing over two kilograms, making it “much heavier and taller” than he anticipated, as reported by AFP. As reported by AFP, he said, «The big one that you're crowned with, the St Edward's Crown, it weighs five pounds (more than two kilogrammes). It is much heavier and taller, so there's always that feeling of feeling slightly anxious, in case it wobbles.» The documentary, which is set to air on Boxing Day in Canada, follows the journey of 12 Canadian women who sailed to London in 1953 to witness the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. These women revisited Buckingham Palace in 2023, where they were unexpectedly greeted by King Charles.

How China became the world's largest car exporter
President-elect Donald Trump has promised to impose new tariffs on China. Many countries, including the United States, already levy extra tariffs on China's electric vehicles. But with all of the advantages China wields in automaking, this pushback is unlikely to undercut China's dominance. China's home market for car sales is the world's largest — almost as big as the U.S. and European markets combined.

Satellite imagery help banks assess farmers' income, repayment capacity
AgriStack initiative, for rolling digital farm lending in Uttar Pradesh for its eight crore farmers, the State government is currently working with the International Finance Corporation for providing APIs of the state’s land records and farm boundaries to SatSure and a couple of other companies. Bengaluru-based Space tech company SatSure provides satellite-based risk scoring and ratings reports at both farm and village level. It extracts patterns from satellite imagery using AI algorithms which can identify what crop is growing within a land parcel. It tracks changes in health, productivity, and provides insights on how these changes are related to climatic variables like rainfall, temperature, and humidity. These insights help banks understand the farmer’s income from the land and his ability to repay a loan.

Race for GCCs now in heightened state(s)
global capability centres (GCCs) in India, states are eager to grab a piece of the action. Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are among those drafting their own GCC policies to attract multinationals with incentives to create back-office hubs outside the traditional hot spots of Bengaluru and NCR. In August, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav travelled to Bengaluru to meet industry leaders to showcase the state and discuss expansion plans. He also extended invitations for Regional Investor Conclaves across the state as well as the Global Investors Summit 2025 in February, said people aware of the matter. Uttar Pradesh has already drafted a policy that highlights its «strategic location, young workforce, and rapidly developing infrastructure, (which) is well-positioned to benefit from this growth.» The state aims to attract GCCs «by focusing on infrastructure development, talent enhancement, and financial incentives.»
