Sebi officials flag ‘toxic’ work culture to government
Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) officials made an unprecedented complaint to the finance ministry last month, accusing the capital and commodities market regulator's leadership of fostering a toxic work culture. «Shouting, scolding and public humiliation have become a norm in meetings,» said the August 6 letter, which ET has reviewed. The communication has come to light at a time when Sebi chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch is facing accusations of conflict of interest over the regulator's Adani inquiry and the Opposition has raised questions over compensation paid to her by former employer ICICI Bank. Zee Group founder Subhash Chandra accused her of corruption on Tuesday. Buch has denied any wrongdoing as has ICICI Bank. Sebi said matters with employees have been resolved. «The issues referred in your mail have already been addressed by Sebi,» the regulator said in an email.

ED attaches Rs 10 lakh FD of accused in NEET paper leak case
Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached a nearly ₹10 lakh fixed deposit of an accused in the alleged leak of medical entrance exam question paper, people in the know said. The agency had launched a probe under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act based on an FIR registered by CBI. It had issued summons to some of the accused. After conducting a preliminary investigation and identifying the alleged proceeds of crime, it attached the fixed deposit of one of the accused, the people said. The probe is continuing, and the agency is likely to attach the assets of more co-accused in the near future, they said. Last month, the Supreme Court, refusing to order a retest of the NEET-undergraduate examination, told the National Testing Agency that it «cannot afford to misstep, take an incorrect decision and amend it at a later stage». Instead, it should maintain the «highest standards of security and reliability» in conducting important competitive examinations, the top court told the testing agency that conducts the NEET and several other competitive exams.

After the Starliner issue and planes falling from the sky, Boeing's next big problem - a strike by 32,000 workers
Boeing has faced a plethora of negative news and nearly nothing but issues. If a new contract isn't reached by September 12, 32,000 workers may go on strike against Boeing. While Boeing struggles with its past decisions and ongoing financial issues, the union demands better wages, benefits, and job security. On September 12 at 11:59 p.m. PT, the agreement between Boeing and the International Association of Machinists is scheduled to expire. The employees who assemble the company's aircraft in Washington state are scheduled to go on strike for the first time in sixteen years if they don't get a new contract. The union's president believes that there is currently little chance of a deal. The major issues that divide them are pay, health care, retirement, and vacation time, according to Jon Holden, the president of IAM District 751, who spoke with CNN last week. They're still working on it, but it's been a difficult process to get there.

Six women among nine Maoists killed in Bastar
Maoists, including six women, were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, taking the total number of killings in the state this year to an all-time high of 154 deaths (in graphics). The gunfight broke out at around 10.30 am in the forests along the border of Dantewada and Bijapur districts when a joint team of security forces was out on an anti-Maoist operation, said inspector general of police, Bastar range, Sundarraj P. Personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard and the Central Reserve Police Force were involved in the operation, which was launched based on inputs about the presence of Maoists belonging to its west Bastar division unit, according to CRPF officials. The intermittent exchange of fire lasted for a long time, following which bodies of nine Maoists in 'uniform' were recovered from the spot, they added. A huge cache of weapons was also seized from the encounter site. Union home minister Amit Shah, during his three-day visit last month, had said that the government is committed to completely eradicating Maoism from the country before March 2026. Shah has also sought the creation of a special investigation agency in states for probe and prosecution on the lines of National Investigation Agency and has urged Chhattisgarh government to come up with a new surrender-cum-rehabilitation policy.
