During its legislative party meeting on Saturday evening, principal opposition BJD decided to raise alleged mismanagement during Lord Jagannath's Rath Yatra, law and order situation in the state, «assault» on an assistant section officer (ASO) at the Raj Bhavan in Puri and prevailing price rise of essential items, among other issues. BJD chief whip Pramila Mallick said the BJP had promised many things, including free 300 units of electricity and paddy MSP before the polls. «We will see whether the new government fulfils those or not,» she added.

Boeing's defense unit said Sunday the planemaker is still «fighting through challenges» in building two delayed U.S. presidential aircraft known as Air Force One. In 2018, Boeing received a $3.9 billion contract to build two 747-8 aircraft for use as Air Force One, to be delivered by December 2024, but they are now delayed until at least 2027 and 2028. Bangladesh via land ports came to a standstill on Sunday as there was no movement of cargo trucks to and fro due to the ongoing student protests in the neighbouring country, officials said. The Bangladeshi side of the Petrapole landport remained non-functional, they said. Nearly one-third of land-based trade between India and Bangladesh takes place through Petrapole. «Trade from other land ports to Bangladesh, including Petrapole, Gojadanga, Fulbari, and Mahadipur, has also stalled as Bangladeshi Customs announced a two-day holiday from Sunday, following the government's declaration of a holiday except for essential services due to unrest,» West Bengal Exporters' Coordination Committee Secretary Ujjal Saha said. The cargo trucks that crossed over to Bangladesh on Saturday from Mahadipur port in Malda have not returned, but they are safe, he said.

Kanwar Yatra 2024, which is scheduled to start on Monday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Haridwar Parmendra Dobhal said that the entire Kanwar Mela area has been divided into 14 super zones and 35 zones. Vedanta Limited raised Rs 8,500 crore (over USD 1 billion) through Qualified Institutions Placement (QIP) of 19.31 crore equity shares at an issue price of Rs 440 per share, according to a stock exchange filing by the company. HDFC Bank will be circumspect about the quality of wholesale and retail loans and how they choose to price. The bank’s chief financial officer Srinivasan Vaidyanathan hinted that intense competition was bringing down profitability on wholesale loans. “On the wholesale category, we have seen that credit demand is high but the rates are benign,” said chief financial officer Srinivasan Vaidyanathan. “The spread over government securities is thinner and competition pushes it even down. We want to be circumspect in how we price and choose (loans). In the retail segment, we are leaders on mortgages but on the unsecured side, we have seen regulators talking about being cautious of credit quality. We are cautious of the credit and calibrate accordingly.” The lender said advances grew 52.6% on year in the June quarter driven by retail loans, which more than doubled. Corporate and wholesale loans grew 18.7% on year. Total loans stood at Rs 24.8 lakh crore.

Nava Raipur Atal Nagar—previously known as Naya Raipur (“Nava” means new in the Chhattisgarhi dialect)—is set to expand from its initial expanse of 80 sq km to 237 sq km. The new city is located 20 km southeast of Raipur. Jitendra Singh on Saturday said all communities must join hands to fight the menace of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. Singh, the minister of state in the Prime Minister's Office, was in Doda, part of his Udhampur parliamentary constituency which was rocked by several terror incidents in over past three months, claiming the lives of 10 security personnel and a village defence guard (VDG). Addressing a public rally before holding a general "public durbar" lasting over three hours, the union minister reaffirmed the revival of VDGs. «The security agencies have a strategy in place to control the security situation in Doda and its adjoining areas in view of the recent incidents of terror, but such strategies are not discussed in public», he said.
