Also Read- Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Defence, power, industrials among sectors to bet on ahead of election resultAnshuman Arzare MD CEO of Yes Securities said that before election results, investors should adopt a strategy of diversifying their portfolios across various sectors to mitigate risk. Focusing on defensive stocks, such as those in the FMCG (Fast moving Consumer Goods), healthcare, and utilities sectors, can provide stability and reduce volatility.Additionally, maintaining a portion of the portfolio in cash or liquid assets can enable investors to capitalize on market corrections, with buying during dips being a potentially fruitful strategy, suggests Arzare. After the election results, investors need to assess the new government's policies and their potential impact on different sectors as per Arzare.

North Korea fires missile barrage toward eastern waters days after failed satellite launch
North Korea on Thursday fired a barrage of suspected ballistic missiles toward its eastern sea, according to South Korea's military, days after its attempt to launch a military reconnaissance satellite ended in failure but still drew strong condemnation from its rivals. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said it detected the North firing around 10 projectiles that appeared to be short-range ballistic missiles from an area near its capital, Pyongyang. It said the suspected missiles flew around 350 kilometers (217 miles) before landing in waters off the North's eastern coast. It said the South Korean military has increased surveillance and vigilance and is closely sharing information with the United States and Japan. Japan's coast guard issued a maritime safety advisory over the North Korean launches and urged ships to exercise caution if they find any fallen objects. Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida told reporters that the suspected missiles were believed to have landed in waters outside of Japan's exclusive economic zone and there were no immediate reports of damages. He said Tokyo «strongly condemns» the launches, which are in violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions against the North.

North Korea fires multiple short-range ballistic missiles
North Korea fired a salvo of short-range ballistic missiles early Thursday, Seoul's military said, hours after Pyongyang sent hundreds of trash-filled balloons across the border to punish South Korea. The launch follows a failed attempt by the nuclear-armed North to put a second spy satellite into orbit on Monday, shortly after Seoul, Beijing and Tokyo held a rare summit and called for Pyongyang to give up their nukes. Kim Jong Un's powerful sister on Thursday referred to the balloon barrage, which reportedly contained animal faeces, as «sincere presents» for the South in a statement, saying they were justified retaliation for anti-Kim propaganda sent northwards by activists.

Israel warns war in Gaza may extend seven more months
war in Gaza might persist until the year's end, casting doubt on hopes that the fighting would cease after the military operation against Hamas in Rafah, CNN reported. Tzachi Hanegbi, Israel's national security adviser, indicated that 2024 had been designated a «year of combat» by Israel's war cabinet. «We are now in the fifth month of 2024, which means we expect another seven months of fighting to deepen our achievements and achieve our goal of destroying the military and governmental capabilities of Hamas and Islamic Jihad,» Hanegbi stated. These remarks come as Israeli tanks, spotted in central Rafah for the first time since the operation commenced, continued to advance on the southern Gaza city on Wednesday. This action persists despite mounting global pressure to halt the offensive, as reported by CNN.
