Syria's worst violence in months reopens wounds of the civil war
Bashar Assad escalated into clashes that a war monitor estimates have killed more than 1,000 people over four days. The attack Thursday near the port city of Latakia reopened the wounds of the country's 13-year civil war and sparked the worst violence Syria has seen since December, when insurgents led by the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, or HTS, overthrew Assad. The counteroffensive against the Assad loyalists in the largely Alawite coastal region brought havoc to several cities and towns. Rights groups reported dozens of revenge killings resulting from Sunni militants targeting the minority Islamic sect, regardless of whether they were involved in the insurgency.

IAS officer and IIT-IIM graduate pens emotional post on 'guilt of motherhood' on Women's Day, says it's important to 'forgive yourself'
Divya Mittal, an officer of the esteemed Indian Administrative Service (IAS), is no stranger to adversity. Her journey toward becoming a civil servant was paved with relentless effort, unwavering determination, and countless sacrifices. Before successfully clearing one of the nation’s most challenging competitive examinations, she pursued higher education at two of India’s most distinguished institutions—the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Delhi and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Bangalore. While securing admission into these premier institutes and eventually entering the bureaucratic system required immense perseverance, Mittal acknowledges that none of these hurdles compare to the complexities and emotional demands of motherhood. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, she shared a series of reflections about the trials and triumphs of raising two young daughters while simultaneously managing the weighty responsibilities of her profession.

Ukraine. Last week, that group of experts went public for the first time, publishing a 31-page paper that delves into the technical details of how a ceasefire along a more than 700-mile front line could be monitored and enforced. The paper was shared last month via another confidential channel: a recurring meeting in Geneva between American, Russian and Ukrainian foreign-policy experts who are close to their governments. The paper, one of the most detailed templates for a Ukraine ceasefire to have been published, is a sign of how quickly the topic of planning for a ceasefire has gone from a controversial and theoretical exercise to an urgent and practical issue.

Will relief rally power Nifty above 23,000 this week? 6 key triggers to track
Nifty breaking a three-week losing streak and closing nearly 2% higher despite weak global cues amid the rising threat of tariff wars with multiple trading partners. This rebound was driven by encouraging macroeconomic indicators, a fall in the dollar index, and liquidity infusion by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). “The metal, capital goods, and energy sectors outperformed due to optimism over China's stimulus and lower crude oil prices. A fall in the dollar index also boosted investor sentiment towards emerging markets, while the US equity markets have declined due to uncertainty over Trump's economic policies,” said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services.
