UPI ID linked to inactive mobile number? With this move of NPCI, it will be hard to misuse your UPI ID with recycled number
UPI ID linked with a mobile number you dont use, or have anymore? It has not been an easy task to delink such an inactive mobile number from the UPI ID. However, going ahead, you will be able to remove, or de-link your mobile number from this UPI ID, even if you do not have that mobile number in your possession anymore. Before the end of this month (i.e., before March 31, 2025), all UPI banks and PSPs (payment service providers) will have to update their database with regards to recycled, or churned, numbers, to “reduce the chances of errors due to churned mobile numbers,” per a recent NPCI circular dated March 2025. Moreover, this will not be a one-off updation process. As the circular further notes, NPCI requires its member apps and banks to at least bring their mobile number databases up to date at least once a week, so that recycled, or churned-out, numbers are identified and weeded out more frequently. For this purpose, “the Banks, PSP apps shall use the Mobile Number Revocation List (MNRL)/Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP),” the circular adds.

Sri Lanka 'welcomes' investment opportunities from Adani, says official
Sri Lanka has not changed its stance on doing business with India's Adani Group and welcomes investment opportunities from the conglomerate, the country's cabinet spokesperson said on Tuesday. Gautam Adani, the chairman of the ports to power business group, and top executives of Adani Green were indicted by U.S. prosecutors last year for their alleged role in a $265 million scheme to bribe Indian officials to secure solar power deals. Adani and the executives have denied any wrongdoing. Sri Lanka, however, had said it was «unconcerned» by the group's dealings with other countries. «But Sri Lanka remains firm on negotiating purchasing costs of power generated from the wind power projects,» the cabinet spokesperson said, referring to the two proposed wind power projects Adani has withdrawn from.

Just when investors were questioning the long-term growth trajectory, Europe’s stunning $850 billion defence rearmament plan has flipped the script in Dalal Street’s favour. With Europe scrambling to fortify its military capabilities, Indian defence giants are in prime position to ride this global wave of rearmament.

Gaza hostage talks: Trump-Israel tensions begin to surface
Adam Boehler, the US envoy for hostages, and a top Hamas representative, Israeli leaders quietly expressed their displeasure, saying Hamas is a terrorist organisation whose words can't be trusted or taken at face value. Boehler acknowledged in television interviews Sunday that Israel had «raised some concerns,» but said it's helpful to hear what Hamas wants and what it's offering. «We're not an agent of Israel. We have specific interests at play,» he noted on CNN. The friction over Boehler's outreach to Hamas, a group the US and others designate as terrorist, is the first sign of disagreement. While Trump has made his support for Israel clear, the president's unpredictable moves — including stunning European allies by opening direct peace talks with Russia — left officials wary.

Fitch assigns Negative Outlook to Adani Energy, cites US probe risks
Fitch Ratings has removed energy infrastructure company Adani Energy Solutions (AESL) from its 'Ratings Watch Negative' list and assigned a Negative Outlook, it said in a statement on Monday. The agency cited concerns over ongoing US investigations that could reveal governance weaknesses and affect financial stability. The agency warned that the outcome of the probe could impact the company's credit profile. It had affirmed the long-term foreign- and local-currency issuer default ratings at 'BBB-'. «The risks associated with the group's liquidity and funding requirements have moderated,» Fitch said in a statement, adding that the proceedings and outcome of the US investigations could reveal that the group's corporate governance practices are weaker than it expected, potentially leading to negative rating action in the near to medium term.

soft touch regulations within regulatory guardrails and expand the reach of UPI for more efficient cross-border payments, Governor Sanjay Malhotra said on Monday. In his address at the Inauguration of Digital Payments Awareness Week 2025 here, the governor said apart from the RBI, the government and other important stakeholders like banks and payment system operators have also taken a number of initiatives to encourage the adoption of digital payments. «While these efforts have produced results, as visible in the huge growth of digital payments, there is still a lot more to be done. Going forward, we will work on three broad areas,» he said. The areas are soft-touch regulations to continue promoting innovation, promote awareness generation, and more efficient cross-border payments.
