Sources said that over 200 security personnel were also travelling on the same train. Balochistan is experiencing its worst phase of insurgency of all the four phases it has witnessed since 1948, a security expert told ET. The daring nature of the hijack reflects a major Intelligence failure of the ISI and Pakistan Army, a source pointed out. Chinese reaction to the incident will be keenly watched. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has threatened to execute ten Pakistani hostages following drone strikes and artillery shelling by Pakistani forces amid the ongoing hostage crisis in Balochistan’s Bolan district.

Specialty chemicals manufacturing startup Scimplify has raised $40 million in a Series B funding round co-led by Accel and existing investor Bertelsmann India Investments. 'Laat Saheb' Holi procession here have been covered with tarpaulins and a strict security measure has been put in place ahead of the festival of colours which coincides with the Friday prayers. Following an 18th-century tradition, Holi in Shahjahanpur begins with revellers hurling footwear at a man impersonating 'Laat Saheb' — a British Lord — seated on a bullock cart. Barricades have been installed along the procession route and several CCTV cameras have been installed by the local administration. «There are 18 Holi processions in the city, including the two major 'Laat Saheb' processions. To ensure security, the larger procession has been divided into three zones and eight sectors, with around 100 magistrates deployed,» Superintendent of Police Rajesh S told PTI. Moreover, police have taken preventive action against 2,423 people to deter potential troublemakers, he said. «The security deployment includes 10 police circle officers, 250 sub-inspectors, around 1,500 police personnel and two companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC),» the SP added.

Asking a supplementary during Question Hour, Manish Tewari of the Congress said national security and energy security have to go hand in hand. He claimed the mixed renewable energy project will run up to one kilometer of the International Border (IB) and noted that as per security protocol, any big infrastructure project should be at least 10 km away from the IB. He asked whether any relaxation was granted to the proposed project.
