Trump 2.0 and the Indo-Pacific: Navigating stormy waters or charting a new course?
Indo-Pacific could offer an alternative trading framework, but many countries—especially India—will be uneasy about China’s dominant role within it, commented Martin Wolf, Chief Economics Commentator at the Financial Times. He set the tone for CUTS International’s webinar on geopolitics last week. The two-session brought together global experts, policymakers, and thought leaders to assess the implications of President Donald Trump’s second term on the Indo-Pacific region’s geopolitics, trade, and security frameworks. Ambassador Meera Shankar, former Indian Ambassador to the U.S., emphasised that “Collective security, collective prosperity, and a rules-based order drive the Indo-Pacific region.” However, she noted that while economic cooperation has progressed, collective security remains a work in progress.

Who is Tom Homan, Trump's new Border czar
Trump has appointed Tom Homan, the former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as “border czar” to oversee the nation's immigration enforcement, maritime, and aviation security. Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, saying, “I am pleased to announce that the Former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders (‘The Border Czar’), including, but not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security.” Trump added, “There’s nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders” and that Homan “will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin.” Homan, a key figure during Trump’s first term, led “zero tolerance” immigration enforcement, including policies that separated children from families at the border, leading to widespread criticism. He also contributed to Project 2025, a conservative policy blueprint, though Trump distanced himself from that project during his campaign. Homan served as acting ICE director from 2017 to 2018 and frequently defended his agency’s aggressive tactics, including saying undocumented immigrants “should be afraid” and vowing to place parents and guardians of undocumented minors in immigration proceedings. Greenland in the spotlight: Why Trump wants to gain control of the 4,000-year-old civilisation
Donald Trump seeks to secure control over the mineral-rich Arctic territory. While most people associate Greenland with its icy terrain at the top of the world, the island’s history stretches back over 4,000 years, shaped by various human cultures and pivotal geopolitical events. A self-governing region of Denmark, Greenland has been home to diverse groups, from early Inuit migrants and Norse settlers to Lutheran missionaries and U.S. military personnel. Today, it remains a significant location due to its natural resources, and with a warming climate and increasing competition for Arctic resources, Greenland’s economic future looks poised for growth.

IndusInd Bank shares see target price cuts as brokerages react to CEO’s shortened tenure
IndusInd Bank shares slumped over 5% on Monday as analysts flagged concerns over strategic uncertainty after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) granted CEO Sumant Kathpalia only a one-year extension instead of the three-year term sought by the bank’s board. Brokerages reacted with a mix of target price downgrades and cautionary outlooks, citing leadership instability, asset quality concerns, and regulatory scrutiny. This is the second consecutive time the RBI has approved a shorter tenure for Kathpalia than what was proposed by the board. The private lender’s stock has lost 42.45% over the past year, 8.41% in the last three months, and 9.11% in the last week alone.

Job market shock: Why a fresh graduate from top 3 IIM took a pay cut, from Rs 23 LPA to 16 LPA
IIM graduate who reportedly quit his job just 10 days after joining due to a misunderstanding about his role. According to the Reddit user, who previously worked as an inside sales representative, he was asked to train a newly hired account executive—an IIM graduate who had secured a lucrative package of Rs 21 lakh per annum, along with a Rs 2 lakh joining bonus. However, despite the attractive salary, the new recruit resigned in less than two weeks. The reason? He believed he was hired for a marketing position but was instead assigned to sales for the first year. Feeling misled, he decided to leave. The Reddit user recounted a conversation where the graduate expressed frustration, saying he hadn’t expected to handle sales accounts. When reassured that this was common in the industry, the IIM graduate firmly stated that he didn’t want to continue. Despite having a student loan, the graduate later accepted a role in operations and supply chain management with a lower salary of Rs 16 lakh per annum.

However, Rajesh Palviya, technicals and derivatives analyst at Axis Securities, cautions that the rally remains fragile unless key resistance levels are surpassed. In an interaction with ETNow, he highlighted the significance of 22,750 as a pivotal level that needs to be breached for a stronger uptrend. «There is a recovery from oversold trajectory of Nifty. But still, we are trading below to 20-day moving average, which is placed at around 22,750 kind of level. So, that level needs to cross in this recovery,» he stated.
