When mini liquor bottles and single cigarette sales speak, economists hear recession warning
recession are mounting as economic indicators—both traditional and unconventional—point to growing financial strain. Consumers are cutting back on discretionary spending, companies are tightening their forecasts, and market volatility is rising, all while U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade policies continue to rattle investor confidence. Economists define a recession as a “significant decline in economic activity” lasting more than a few months, often marked by a drop in GDP, rising unemployment, and weaker industrial production. While some analysts maintain that the economy remains stable for now, Goldman Sachs recently raised the probability of a recession this year to 20%.

Atmosphere seemed so volatile, dangerous: Indian PhD candidate who 'self deported' from US
Ranjani Srinivasan, an Indian student at Columbia University who opted to «self-deport» after her visa was revoked, has described the terrifying moment when federal immigration agents first knocked on the door of her varsity apartment. The immigration agents were searching for Srinivasan, 37, who had recently learned her student visa had been revoked. Srinivasan, an international PhD student from India, did not open the door when the three immigration agents knocked at it, the New York Times reported. She was not home when the agents showed up again the next night. She packed a few belongings, left her cat behind with a friend and jumped on a flight to Canada at LaGuardia Airport, the report added. When the agents returned a third time, this past Thursday night, and entered her apartment with a judicial warrant, she was gone.

At the same time, home prices surged by $31,300 to a median of $446,300—the second-highest in history,» the report stated.

wholesale inflation quickened to 2.38 per cent in February on an annual basis, as against 2.31 per cent in January, government data showed on Monday. As per data released by the centre earlier this month, India’s retail inflation eased to a seven-month low of 3.61% in February, down from 4.31% in January. The decline was largely driven by lower food prices, with food inflation—comprising nearly half of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) basket—falling to 3.75% in February from 5.97% in January. NBFCs and Private Banks set to outperform, stay invested: Rahul Shah
«If you look at the biggest gainer, the crude prices which has cooled off and inflation below sub-4, RBI's interventions what we have seen, so all these things are just getting a base for our markets to move up and as I said, it will be a stock pickers and the stock specific rather than the entire market selling into it,» says Rahul Shah, MOFSL. What is it that your strategy is in this market? Time to buy yet? Rahul Shah: What we have seen in last five-six months after a steep correction, because stock-wise there is a lot of correction other than the indices. So, after three good years, market is showing some kind of cool-off or maybe a base which is getting created before it takes off.

'I call him bro, visit Dubai twice a month': Sania Mirza's ex-husband Shoaib Malik on his relationship with their son Izhaan
Shoaib Malik recently opened up about his bond with his son, Izhaan Mirza Malik, following his divorce from Indian tennis star Sania Mirza. While Sania has primary custody, Shoaib has emphasized that he remains actively involved in Izhaan’s life, despite public scrutiny over his availability as a father. During a recent appearance on a Pakistani Ramzan show, Shoaib described his relationship with Izhaan as more of a friendship than a traditional father-son bond. He revealed that Izhaan affectionately calls him “bro,” and he reciprocates in the same way, making their dynamic playful and close-knit. He also shared that he makes an effort to visit Dubai twice a month, ensuring that he personally drops Izhaan at school and picks him up during his stay. Sports play a significant role in strengthening their bond. Shoaib expressed that despite the physical distance, he connects with his son almost daily through video calls, where they discuss everything from routine matters to their shared love for sports.

Why financial investments, and not your cherished antique collection, will make for the best inheritance gift
antiques, paintings, chinaware and jewellery. Why was he unhappy? Inheritance is money one has not earned. Not everyone is pleased with the windfall. There was a time when the outlook for the future seemed bleak in the minds of the younger generation. Widespread unemployment, poverty and scarcity made many believe that becoming rich was tough, if not impossible. We now live in times when the younger generation is more confident, positive and capable of earning and living well. So, don’t they need their parents’ wealth? Wealth is welcome, but not as unconditionally as before. The younger generation is not desperate, eager to grab what has been left behind, and devise quick ways to use it. If feeling guilty about the largesse seems surprising, being confused, exhausted and isolated is real. Imagine inheriting a bungalow full of stuff that one has to spend days sifting through. One does not even know if something is valuable, and whether there is a market for a seemingly exotic painting.

Gene Hackman death mystery deepens: Doctor claims wife Betsy Arakawa called him a day after authorities report she had died
Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, has taken a bizarre turn. A Santa Fe doctor has come forward with a shocking claim that Arakawa called his clinic a full 24 hours after authorities claimed she had died—throwing the official timeline into question and adding another layer of mystery to the unfolding saga. Dr. Josiah Child, a physician at Cloudberry Health in Santa Fe, has contradicted the medical examiner’s report, which stated that 65-year-old Arakawa died on February 11 from hantavirus, a rare respiratory disease transmitted by rodents. But according to Dr. Child, she was very much alive the next morning. “She called back on the morning of February 12 and spoke to one of our doctors,” Dr. Child revealed. “She was supposed to come in that afternoon for an appointment. But she never showed up.”

Gold price prediction: What to expect in 2025?
Gold Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) investors will continue to be the key drivers of gold demand in 2025, as per a report. Geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainties are expected to push gold prices higher, while central banks' actions will play a significant role in shaping the precious metal market, IANS reported. According to the Motilal Oswal Private Wealth report, gold emerged as one of the top-performing asset classes in India in 2024, with a remarkable 21 per cent return year-on-year (YoY). While high prices affected jewellery demand, the investment demand for physical gold, especially bars and coins, remained strong. Motilal Oswal reports that although the demand was subdued in 2024 due to high prices, it was expected to recover gradually in mid-January, driven by wedding season purchases. However, price stability will remain a key factor in this recovery.
