Shahjahan Sheikh under 'legal protection', has become police guest: BJP
BJP on Thursday dubbed the arrest of Shahjahan Sheikh as a «legal protection» given to him and slammed the West Bengal police for not charging him with the crime of sexual assault and land grab levelled against the Trinamool Congress (TMC) strongman by many women in Sandeshkhali. BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said at a press conference that Sheikh has been arrested in the case involving violent attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials by a mob affiliated to him. He asked as to why the West Bengal police has in such a case not handed over his custody to the central agency. He said the video of Sheikh striding ahead with the cops following him looked more like a case of him being escorted instead of being under arrest.

Tech View: Nifty giving non-directional signs. What should traders do on Friday
Nifty ended 32 points higher just above the 21-day Exponential Moving Average (21EMA). However, the prevailing sentiment appears somewhat negative from the current level. At the lower end, crucial support is positioned at 21,950; as long as the index maintains a position above 21,950, there is a possibility of witnessing a recovery. Nevertheless, a decline below 21,950 could potentially lead the index towards 21,800, said Rupak De of LKP Securities.

Oscars 2024: Ryan Gosling, Billie Eilish, and Jon Batiste among performers set to shine
Oscars just got an infusion of Kenergy. Ryan Gosling will sing the pop power ballad " I'm Just Ken " at the show on March 10, the show's producers announced Wednesday. Others set to perform their nominated original songs include Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell, Jon Batiste, Scott George and the Osage Singers and Becky G. Gosling is also nominated for best supporting actor that evening. While in character as Ken in a promo for the show with Jimmy Kimmel, he shrugged that he's not going to win. In fairness, even if it was a joke, he might not be wrong: His fellow nominee Robert Downey Jr. has been sweeping the season.

Kotak Mahindra Bank aims to grow gold loan book faster than the industry
Kotak Mahindra Bank’s senior officials on Thursday said that it aims to grow its gold loan book faster than the industry. Speaking to the media, Manish Kothari, president and head of commercial banking, indicated that there is significant scope for them to expand their gold loan book in India since the market is currently dominated by an unorganised sector, which is charging usurious rates to lower-income groups. Shripad Jadhav, president of retail agriculture and gold loans, said there is a scope for the bank to expand the gold loan book since the Reserve Bank of India's rule does not require banks to assign any capital on these loans. Besides, the maximum permissible loan to value is 75% of the value of the gold, and since the gold prices have risen, the credit cost is negligible.

The “eyes” have it: IISc study finds eye movements & attention are closely linked
attention and eye movements are linked, while unveiling how the brain coordinates the two processes. Attention is a unique phenomenon that allows us to focus on a specific object in our visual world, and ignore distractions. When we pay attention to an object, we tend to gaze towards it. Therefore, scientists have long suspected that attention is tightly coupled to rapid eye movements, called saccades. In fact, even before our eyes move towards an object, our attention focuses on it, allowing us to perceive it more clearly – a well-known phenomenon called pre-saccadic attention, IISc said in a press release. However, in a new study published in PLOS Biology, the researchers at CNS show that this perceptual advantage is lost when the object changes suddenly, a split second before our gaze falls upon it, making it harder for us to process what changed.
