Speaker McCarthy's job at risk after House votes to move ahead with hard-right effort to oust him
McCarthy's ability to remain in leadership was thrown into serious risk on Tuesday after the House voted to move ahead with an effort by hard-right Republican critics to oust him. The narrow outcome forced by McCarthy's chief rival, Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, brought together a handful of conservative Republican critics of the speaker and many Democrats who say he is unworthy of leadership.

'Only Murders in the Building' Season 4: Here’s what we know so far
Only Murders in the Building' for a fourth season, following the recent release of the season three finale. The show features Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez as they unravel murder mysteries via their true crime podcast. In season three, notable guest stars like Meryl Streep, Paul Rudd, Jesse Williams, and Ashley Park joined the cast. The storyline revolved around a Broadway play directed by Short's character, which took an unexpected turn when a murder occurred. The characters found themselves not only solving the crime but also creating a musical with the help of Tony-Award winning composers. Showrunner John Hoffman expressed his desire for Streep, Williams, and other past guest stars to return in the upcoming season. He mentioned, «There is no greater hope for me. I love them both, Jesse and Meryl, everyone.» He added that they might consider bringing back various characters, including victims and killers, to fit the narrative. The previous seasons of the show focused on murders within their apartment building, featuring guest stars like Tina Fey, who also made an appearance in season three. Since its premiere on Hulu in August 2021, 'Only Murders in the Building' has garnered critical acclaim, with season two earning Emmy nominations for outstanding comedy series and outstanding lead actor in a comedy series. The series was co-created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman, with Hoffman serving as the showrunner and executive producer. Other executive producers include Martin, Martin Short, Selena Gomez, 'This Is Us' creator Dan Fogelman, and Jess Rosenthal. The show has been produced by 20th Television.

Congress caste pitch plays out differently in Karnataka, Bihar
AICC called for a national caste census and Rahul Gandhi's 'jitni aabadi utna haq' slogan, the issue is playing out differently in Congress-ruled Karnataka and the Bihar Congress, which is part of the Nitish Kumar government. While Congress government in Karnataka is evidently looking for ways to delay release of caste survey report pending since 2018 amid internal differences over the findings and political implications, many leaders in Bihar Congress apprehend that the data could prompt many remaining upper caste supporters to desert the party, expecting the Mandal brigade to tighten its grip over Congress. Karnataka government's mind was indicated when backward classes commission chairman Jayaprakash Hegde said the government had asked it to «study the report» and remained non-committal on its submission by merely saying it could happen before November, when the commission's term ends. It coincided with some Congress ministers reportedly arguing that survey findings (reportedly showing that the Vokkaliga and Lingayat population were much less than projected) could affect Congress prospects in the coming Lok Sabha polls.

Death or glory? World Cup anchors changing game of one-day cricket
cricket and a chance to show how the 50-over game has evolved since India last staged the tournament in 2011. One of the criticisms of ODIs, once the economic driving force of the global game, is that they are too often reduced to ‘meaningless’ bilateral series. The format is also viewed as too pedestrian in the slipstream of the high velocity, smash-and-grab T20 format. “The ODI has been reduced to virtually depending on a World Cup year for its importance,” wrote former Australia captain Ian Chappell in a recent ESPNCricinfo column. Meanwhile, India great Sachin Tendulkar, a 2011 World Cup winner, believes the format is now too formulaic.
