Questioned on minority rights in India, Jaishankar says, ‘I defy you to show me discrimination’
Jaishankar also emphasized the Modi government has paid a lot of attention to the issues of the Sikh community, saying the extremist elements are just a small minority and, hence, do not represent the entire group. “...Everyone is aware of the amount of attention that the Modi government has paid to the issues of the Sikh community in the last 10 years and the suggestions it has made," the foreign affairs minister said as quoted by ANI. “I do not believe that the discussions that are taking place right now are the representative issues of the entire community (Sikhs).

"I defy you to show me discrimination..." Jaishankar on minorities in India
minorities in India, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday dismissed concerns around discrimination on grounds of religion saying everything had become fairer. Speaking at an event in Washington DC on Friday, Jaishankar said, «Today, since you brought up the issue of minorities in India, What is the test really of fair and good governance or of the balance of a society? It would be whether in terms of the amenities, the benefits, the access, the rights, do you discriminate or not and in every society in the world, at some point, there's been some discrimination on some basis.

China September factory activity expands for first time in six months
China's factory activity expanded for the first time in six months in September, an official factory survey showed on Saturday, adding to a run of indicators suggesting the world's second-largest economy has begun to stabilise. The official purchasing managers' index (PMI) rose to 50.2 in September from 49.7, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, edging above the 50-point level demarcating contraction from expansion. The reading beat a forecast of 50.0. Beijing is seeking to get its economy back on track as it grapples with a property sector debt crisis that has rattled global markets.

IOC awards mega cover to New India again, miffs rivals
Indian Oil Corp's decision to award its mega insurance policy for a ₹4.52-lakh crore cover to New India Assurance Co for the ninth consecutive year has caused a stir among rival general insurers, prompting one of them to write to the petroleum ministry to seek a fresh tendering award, people ET spoke with, and emails accessed by this newspaper showed. New India has been backed by US reinsurer Chubb in this mega insurance deal for the country's biggest fuel retailer by value, customer touch points and capacity. Tanishq, Malabar Gold and other jewellery giants put their hallmark on small towns
gold jewellery from Tanishq's store there, but she now has the option to buy it closer home, as the Titan co-owned chain has opened an outlet at Pollachi. Tanishq's store at Pollachi, about 40 km south of Coimbatore city and opened in April last year, shows how established jewellery chains are going closer to consumers in small towns who are increasingly opting for branded jewellery with latest designs and proper hallmark unique identification numbers, which ensure purity of gold. For organised retailers like Tanishq, Malabar Gold & Diamonds and PNG Jewellers, setting up shop in small towns help tap into this growing demand at a lower cost than expanding in big cities, as real estate comes much cheaper. As much as 70% of Tanishq's 436 stores are outside large cities — 38% in places with 200,000-plus population and 32% in smaller towns — with the remaining 30% in metros and mini-metros, chief executive Ajoy Chawla said.

Steven Tyler's band Aerosmith delays 2023 tour to 2024. This is what happened
Aerosmith has postponed their 2023 tour to the following year due to a severe vocal injury sustained by Steven Tyler. Initially diagnosed as «bleeding vocal cords,» Tyler's condition has now been revealed to be more critical than initially thought. In a statement released on social media, the band disclosed that Tyler fractured his larynx, necessitating ongoing medical attention. Although he is receiving top-notch care, the nature of the fracture requires patience. Following Tyler's vocal injury, six tour dates were rescheduled to 2024, starting in January and concluding in late February. These concerts were originally planned for Detroit, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Toronto, Raleigh and Cleveland. The band's earlier expectation of returning by October 11 has been dashed. The band has indicated that new dates will be announced once more information becomes available. All previously purchased tickets will be honored at the rescheduled concerts, and refunds will be offered to those unable to attend the yet-to-be-announced new dates. Tyler also shared a personal message, expressing his heartbreak at not being able to perform with Aerosmith and the Black Crowes, but promising a swift return to the stage. Similarly, Bruce Springsteen has had to postpone all of his September shows due to struggles with peptic ulcer disease. His representatives stated that Springsteen is undergoing treatment and that the tour dates, originally set to conclude in mid-December, are being postponed out of an abundance of caution. Currently, the only concerts on Springsteen's schedule are a series of rescheduled shows in Philadelphia next August.

CSR funds can breathe new life into Indian tourism
₹175 crore in FY19 to ₹362 crore in FY22, a year-on-year increase of 27%. This is still less than 3% of the total CSR spending leaving the bulk of funds untapped for tourism development. If planned better, “Adopt a Heritage 2.0" can leverage these funds to create thriving tourist ecosystems across India, and those ecosystems are sorely needed.
