US consumer spending increased in August, but underlying inflation moderated, with the year-on-year rise in prices excluding food and energy slowing to below 4.0%. Consumer spending, which accounts for more than two-thirds of U.S. economic activity, gained 0.4% last month, the Commerce Department reported on Friday. Data for July was revised higher to show spending increasing 0.9% instead of the previously reported 0.8%.

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) showed on Friday. Previously, forex reserves decreased by $867 million to $593.04 billion for the week ended on September 15. According to the Weekly Statistical Supplement released by the RBI, Foreign currency assets (FCAs) dropped by $2.55 billion to $523.40 billion. Expressed in dollar terms, the FCAs include the effect of appreciation or depreciation of non-US units like the euro, pound and yen held in the foreign exchange reserves. Gold reserves increased by $307 million to $44.31 billion, while SDRs were down by $79 million to $18.01 billion. Reserve position in the IMF decreased by $11 million to $5.02 billion. It can be noted that in October 2021, the country's forex kitty had reached an all-time high of USD 645 billion.

India's eight core sectors grew by 12.1 per cent on an annual basis in August, data released by the government showed on Friday. In July, the number stood at 8 per cent on an annual basis.

Total receipts stood at 10.29 lakh crore rupees, while overall expenditure in April to August was at 16.72 lakh crore rupees. They were 37.9% and 37.1% of this fiscal year's budget target. Revenue receipts stood at 10.14 lakh crore rupees, of which tax revenue was 8.04 lakh crore rupees and non-tax revenue was 2.10 lakh crore rupees.
