Access to justice a fundamental right, delay in filing appeals in NIA cases can be condoned: Bombay HC
NIA Act. Under section 21 (5) of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Act, no appeal shall be entertained after an expiry of period of 90 days from the date of the order under challenge. A division bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Gauri Godse allowed a plea filed by one Faizal Mirza, arrested by the NIA, seeking condonation of delay of 838 days in filing appeal seeking bail. Mirza had filed an appeal challenging a March 2020 order passed by a special NIA court rejecting his bail plea. The high court in its judgment noted the NIA Act has to be read in conjunction with other laws and cannot be said to be a complete code in itself. The bench also expressed its displeasure with the contradictory stand taken by the NIA.

The Taliban embrace cultural heritage
the Taliban minister of finance led an axe-wielding wrecking crew to smash up thousands of the pre-Islamic artefacts bequeathed by Afghanistan’s staggeringly rich history. Determined to prevent a repeat performance, museum employees camped for nights on end in the battered 1920s Kabul villa that houses its collections. Yet this time the Taliban have shown no interest in demolishing the museum’s thousand-year-old statues of Buddha and pagan wooden effigies of Nuristan (many of which have been laboriously stuck back together by museum staff over the past two decades).

India vs Pakistan Asia Cup: Anand Mahindra calls last six a 'Surgical Strike', lauds 'Doctor' Kohli's 'effortless' move
Pakistan cricket always finds a huge audience, even if they are not fans of the sport. The same was true for the epic match held between Team India crushed Pakistan by 228 runs in a Super 4 match of the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka on Monday. In the rain-affected Asia Cup Super Four match, ace cricketer Virat Kohli scored a magnificent century against one of his favourite opponents Pakistan. The 34-year-old raised India's total to 356/2 with his unbeaten 122 in 94 balls. As KL Rahul batted beside him, Kohli showed excellent form as the pair crushed Pakistan's bowling lineup. Days after the iconic match, billionaire businessman Anand Mahindra, who is an avid cricket enthusiast, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share his analysis with his more than 10.7 million fans. Calling the last six of the last ball a "Surgical Strike" against Pakistan, the Chairman of Mahindra Group was all praise for Kohli's «effortless» movement. He said the cricketer deserves a medical degree. Alongside a video of the six on the last ball by Kohli, the auto boss tweet read, «He may be known as King Kohli but he deserves a medical degree. Doctor Kohli….» Despite his love for cricket, Mahindra believes in the superstition that if he tunes in to the television to watch a match, India lose. On Monday, when Rohit Sharma slammed his 50th half-century in 42 balls, the 69-year-old was tempted to switch on his TV to witness the spectacle live. Moments later, he was forced to switch off the TV when India lost their two openers — Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Mahindra apologises to his fans for causing this loss.
