Day trading guide for today: Despite weak global cues, Dalal Street ended higher on Wednesday. NSE Nifty finished above 20,000 levels for the first time ever, logging intraday gain of 76 points. Nifty closed at 20,070 levels whereas BSE Sensex surged 245 points and ended at 67,466 mark.

Nasdaq ended higher on Wednesday after data showing a moderate increase in consumer prices in August cemented expectations that the Federal Reserve will leave interest rates unchanged in September. Megacap growth stocks Tesla, Meta Platforms, Microsoft and Amazon.com gained over 1% each.Apple dipped 1.2%, down for a second day after unveiling new iPhones on Tuesday while leaving prices unchanged. The S&P 500 climbed 0.12% to end the session at 4,467.44 points. The Nasdaq gained 0.29% to 13,813.59 points, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.20% to 34,575.53 points. The S&P 500 consumer discretionary index climbed 0.9%, lifted as Ford Motor rallied 1.5% on the vehicle maker's plans to double the production of its hybrid F-150 pickup trucks in 2024. Data showed consumer prices increased by the most in 14 months in August as gasoline prices surged, but the annual rise in underlying inflation was the smallest in nearly two years. Stickiness in services inflation has kept alive prospects of a November hike.

Oil prices edged higher on Thursday, after dipping slightly in the previous session, as markets refocused on expectations of tight crude supply for the rest of 2023. International benchmark Brent futures climbed 17 cents to $92.05 a barrel at 12:02 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude (WTI) rose 19 cents to $88.71. Saudi Arabia and Russia's extension of oil output cuts to the end of 2023 will mean a substantial market deficit through the fourth quarter, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said on Wednesday, as it largely stuck by its estimates for demand growth this year and next. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) on Tuesday stuck to its forecasts for robust growth in global oil demand in 2023 and 2024. Both benchmarks climbed to 10-month highs on Wednesday before data showed a surprise build in U.S.

Some analysts who favor one or two indicators to forecast US recessions have had a rough year. The reliance on a generally robust predictor may yet prove its worth in the months ahead. But so far the months-long calls by some pundits that recession is near have been wrong, or at least premature.

Fox has announced the renewal of 'Lego Masters' for its fifth season, set to air in the 2024-25 schedule. This renewal comes ahead of the fourth season's premiere, scheduled for September 28. Alongside this renewal, the network has also confirmed a third installment of 'Lego Masters: Celebrity Holiday Bricktacular' to be broadcast in late 2024. Will Arnett, who also serves as executive producer, continues to host both shows. Allison Wallach, President of Unscripted Programming at Fox Entertainment, praised the show, saying, «With Will Arnett at the helm, Lego Masters has become a foundational property of Fox’s robust unscripted slate and a fast-growing franchise on our schedule.» 'Lego Masters' plays a crucial role in Fox's fall line-up, given the ongoing strike affecting writers and actors. The network is depending on its unscripted offerings to fill primetime slots. In addition to the renewal news, Fox has also announced that the second 'Lego Masters: Celebrity Holiday Bricktacular' will air on December 18 and 19. For this edition, NeNe Leakes, Marshawn Lynch, Kelly Osbourne, and Rob Riggle will join forces with previous 'Lego Masters' contestants for holiday-themed building challenges. The production team behind 'Lego Masters' includes executive producers Will Arnett and Pip Wells, along with Sharon Levy, DJ Nurre, and Michael Heyerman from Endemol Shine North America. Karen Smith and Steph Harris of Tuesday’s Child, along with Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner of Plan B, are also part of the production team. Jill Wilfert and Robert May represent the Lego Group in the production of the show.

NBC series 'Found,' created by Nkechi Okoro Carroll, is set to debut at the Boston Film Festival. The show features Shanola Hampton and Mark-Paul Gosselaar and will be showcased at the festival on September 23, with its official premiere scheduled for October 3. NBC recently unveiled the first trailer for the drama. Originally intended for a midseason release, the series was rescheduled for the fall line-up.

Sotheby’s just landed the chance to sell the undisputed star of the fall auction season: A royal blue, green and red portrait of Pablo Picasso’s young mistress curled up in a chair, “Woman with a Watch," estimated to top $120 million this November. The 1932 portrait hails from the estimated $400 million estate of Emily Fisher Landau, a New York collector who died in March at age 102. Fisher Landau’s 120-piece trove includes major examples by Jasper Johns, Ed Ruscha and Andy Warhol, so market watchers will be closely following the estate’s performance to gauge global bidder interest during the current slump.
