Investing.com-- Gold prices moved little in Asian trade on Thursday, steadying near three-week lows and remaining under pressure from the dollar as data showed a bigger-than-expected increase in U.S. inflation.

Emma Coronel Aispuro, the wife of the infamous Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, has been released from federal custody. Coronel Aispuro, who was convicted for aiding her husband in running his multibillion-dollar criminal empire, reached a plea deal with federal prosecutors in 2021. Her charges included money laundering conspiracy and engaging in transactions with a foreign narcotics trafficker. Coronel was released following 27 months of incarceration. Currently, she is subject to supervised release.

North Korea has 191 athletes signed up for the Asian Games starting next week, according to organisers, suggesting the country is poised to end its more than three-year isolation from the global sporting arena. North Koreans are listed on the Games' website for accredited media to compete in the Chinese city of Hangzhou in sports including athletics, gymnastics, basketball, football, boxing and weightlifting. North Koreans were similarly down to compete at a weightlifting tournament in Cuba in June, but they failed to show. North Korea closed its already tight borders in early 2020 following the outbreak of the pandemic and skipped the Tokyo Olympics, which were pushed back to 2021 because of Covid. It was then banned by the International Olympic Committee from the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics for failing to take part in Tokyo. There have been recent signs that the border restrictions have been eased slightly, with a taekwondo team allowed to travel to a competition last month in Kazakhstan. Prior to that, North Korea had not sent any of its domestic athletes to overseas competitions since the pandemic. The sporting action at the Games in Hangzhou starts on September 19, four days before the opening ceremony, with North Korea scheduled to face Taiwan in men's football that day. Leader Kim Jong Un is said to be an avid sports fan and Games hosts China are North Korea's longtime ally and main economic benefactor. North Korea has traditionally been especially strong in weightlifting, dominating the event at the Jakarta Asian Games in 2018 with eight golds. What is your assessment as to how they have moved and what is the outlook?We have seen a big correction the day before and stocks actually corrected anywhere from 5% to 15% and the index itself was down about 3%. European Union may have just sparked one of its biggest battles. With European officials fearing millions of auto jobs are at risk from China’s surging electric vehicle exports, the bloc’s executive arm on Wednesday launched an investigation into Beijing’s financial support for the EV industry. The probe, which could take up to nine months, will probably lead to new EU tariffs on Chinese EV imports and embroil major non-European automakers like Tesla Inc., which produce cars in China for export to the bloc. The move may lead to tariffs close to the 27.5% level already imposed by the US on Chinese EVs, according to a person familiar with the matter. The EU duties could vary depending on the producer, the person added, asking not to be identified as the discussions are private and no decision has been finalized. The bloc’s investigation, as well as aggressive moves by Washington to counter China, are part of a broader rethink by governments in developed economies to bring production closer to home, especially for key sectors like semiconductors, pharmaceuticals and heavy industries, which were disrupted during the Covid-19 pandemic. Nifty's weekly series expires today, it was marked with long additions with an increase in price of 3.66% and increase in open interest (OI) by 8.12% where 8.61 lakh shares were added in OI, increasing from 106.06 lakh to 114.67 lakh shares as on Wednesday. The Nifty September series rollover stands at 12% with sentiment indicator Nifty Put Call Ratio (PCR) currently at 1.25, indicating a flat-to-positive movement for expiry. As for the Bank Nifty which had a weekly expiry on Wednesday, the series witnessed short covering with an increase in price of 3.87% and decrease in OI by 16% where there was shedding of over 4 lakh shares in OI, decreasing from 25.17 lakh to 21.15 lakh shares. The Bank Nifty August series rollover stands at 17%. Implied Volatility of Nifty ATM options for the current series is at 12.48%, while India Vix is at 11.63% both indicating a slightly higher Volatile movement on either side in expiry session compared to last weekly expiry, analyst Rajesh Palviya, Senior Vice President, Technical and Derivatives Research at Axis Securities said. Palviya said that the Nifty Put options OI distribution shows that 20,000 has highest OI concentration followed by 19,900 and 19,800 which may act as support for today's expiry and on the Call front 20,100 followed by 20,200 and 20,300 witnessed significant OI concentration and may act as resistance.

Asian stocks rose on Thursday, as traders figured a small upside surprise for U.S. inflation was unlikely to push up interest rates and turned their focus to a European Central Bank meeting later in the session. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose 0.4% in early trade.

shares of Chinese electric vehicle (EV) makers fell on Thursday after the European Commission launched an investigation into Chinese subsidies for EVs, escalating tensions between Beijing and the EU. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the investigation in her annual address to lawmakers on Wednesday, saying: "Global markets are now flooded with cheaper electric cars. And their price is kept artificially low by huge state subsidies."Hong Kong shares of market leader BYD fell more than 3%.
