Cracker Barrel Is Stuck in a Generation Gap
It isn’t a good sign when a restaurant chain’s investors ask management about the effect of Social Security checks on its future prospects. Cracker Barrel Old Country Store has long thrived on its unique formula and down-home charm. For example, it proudly touts not only how many biscuits, eggs and strips of bacon it sells but also the number of rocking chairs and wooden puzzles—around 70,000 and 300,000 a year, respectively.

Despite CPI, Fed Can't Keep Rates Higher for Longer Without Breaking Something
Despite surging interest rates, there are few signs they are impeding economic activity or causing distress amongst borrowers. It may seem strange that higher rates are not proving troublesome for an economy with such a high amount of leverage. Don’t breathe a sigh of relief quite yet. Actor Jean Boht passes away at 91. See her iconic performances
actor Jean Boht, renowned for her portrayal of matriarch Nellie Boswell in the 1980s sitcom «Bread,» has died at the age of 91, as confirmed by her family in a statement. The statement, released on Tuesday, September 12, expressed deep sadness over her passing. Jean Boht had been battling vascular dementia and Alzheimer's disease with remarkable strength and determination. Jean Boht's most iconic role was as Nellie Boswell in the TV series «Bread,» which aired from 1986 to 1991 and garnered a peak viewership of over 18 million. The show depicted her character's efforts to hold her cash-strapped Liverpool family together during the era of Margaret Thatcher's leadership. Before this role, she had featured in other television series like «I Woke Up One Morning» and «Brighton Belles,» along with the drama «Boys from the Blackstuff.» In addition to her television work, Jean Boht made notable appearances in theater. One of her memorable performances was in «Embers,» a 2006 adaptation of a Sandor Marai novel set in 1940s Hungary, where she shared the stage with actor Jeremy Irons. Tragically, Jean Boht's husband, accomplished composer Carl Davis, had passed away last month at the age of 86. Carl Davis, known for his Bafta-winning compositions, including the music for the 1995 BBC drama «Pride and Prejudice,» had been battling a brain tumor. Jean Boht leaves behind a legacy and is survived by her two daughters and three grandchildren. Her contribution to the entertainment industry, particularly her memorable role in «Bread,» will be remembered by audiences for a long time.
