If you apply for CAA, you will lose citizenship for 5 years: Mamata Banerjee to Matuas
BJP fighting solo in West Bengal, chief minister Mamata Banerjee said on Sunday in her first Lok Sabha rally in Krishnanagar constituency that she will not allow Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) to be implemented in the state and added that BJP was lying to the Matua community, treating them as a vote bank ahead of Lok Sabha elections. «I will not allow CAA to be implemented in Bengal. We will not allow anyone to become part of NRC here. They (BJP) lie to the Matua for vote bank politics. Do you want to put yourself into danger? Once you apply, you will lose all your benefits in social schemes. Let all BJP candidates apply for CAA,» she said. Banerjee urged the Matua community not to apply for CAA as they will lose their citizenship. «If you apply for CAA, you will lose citizenship for five years,» Banerjee warned, adding that CAA will lead to NRC and Matua people will be in trouble. The promise of implementing CAA was a major electoral plank for BJP in the last Lok Sabha and assembly polls in West Bengal. The community, with more than one crore voters in the state, is spread over Nadia, Cooch Behar, North and South 24 Parganas districts bordering Bangladesh.

Think beyond manufacturing for more/better jobs
employment intensity of manufacturing is declining, and it will need to be buttressed by services, where India has an advantage over its East Asian neighbours. Services also have a bigger impact than manufacturing on reducing job market inequity such as gender, age and social bias.

The harder, the better: Why Indians have a distaste for soft-boiled eggs
soft-boiled egg, the ball is raised to the other end of the rod and released. It hits the mould with a force of 0.6867 Newtons, just enough to crack the eggshell so the top comes off cleanly and the contents can be dug out and eaten. Germans aren’t alone in their love for soft-boiled eggs; Singapore’s kopitiam (coffee-shop) style eggs are served with a dash of soy sauce and pepper. France has many recipes structured around oeufs mollets, most notably one which suspends them in savoury jelly. Scotch eggs envelop them with minced meat. Japanese ramen includes a soft-boiled egg whose creaminess subtly helps enrich the broth. Indians eat eggs scrambled with onions, tomatoes and coriander, or stir-fried with kheema. We hard boil and cook them in curries. We make them into omelettes, stuff them into rolls, or dunk them in gravy. We fry and serve them with cheese and chillies on toast in the newly-popular Eggs Kejriwal. We make bizarre variations (fried with Fanta!) that are condemned or celebrated on social media. What we don’t like is to just soft-boil them.

Cricket-Babar Azam returns as Pakistan's white-ball captain
Babar Azam was named Pakistan's white-ball skipper on Sunday, four and half months after the batter had stepped down as their all-format captain following their World Cup debacle in India. Pakistan could not make the knockout stage of the 50-overs World Cup last year, which prompted Babar to relinquish captaincy. Pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi was subsequently put in charge of the T20 squad, while Shan Masood was named the test captain.

PM Modi maintaining 'studious silence' on key issues affecting people of UP: Congress' Jairam Ramesh
Congress on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of maintaining a «studious silence» on key issues affecting the people of Uttar Pradesh, as it alleged that he has «failed» women, farmers and youth. Ahead of the prime minister's rally in Meerut, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh posed questions for him on behalf of the people of Uttar Pradesh. To avoid having to come clean on his real intentions, he has maintained a «studious silence» on these key issues so far, Ramesh said and went on to list the issues which he claimed the people of Uttar Pradesh are hoping to hear from the PM on. «Publicly, PM Modi loves talking about women's empowerment and 'Nari Shakti' but he has repeatedly failed Indian women, even within his own party. Just two weeks ago, the BJP Mahila Morcha's National Vice President quit the party, citing that female party workers were being 'insulted' and 'treated harshly',» Ramesh said.

Trump camp assails Biden for declaring March 31, Easter Sunday, as Transgender Day of Visibility
Joe Biden is facing criticism from Donald Trump's campaign and religious conservatives for proclaiming March 31 — which corresponds with Easter Sunday this year — as "Transgender Day of Visibility". The Democratic president issued the proclamation on Friday, calling on «all Americans to join us in lifting up the lives and voices of transgender people throughout our Nation and to work toward eliminating violence and discrimination based on gender identity». But in 2024, the March 31 designation overlaps with Easter, one of Christianity's holiest celebrations. Trump's campaign accused Biden, a Roman Catholic, of being insensitive to religion, and fellow Republicans piled on.

Enabled by AI, phishing becomes quite simple
The person claimed to be from the doctor's office and asked him to download a mobile application (app) and fill his personal details to complete the appointment process. Before Nitin realised that something was amiss, he had lost ₹47,000 from his savings bank account. He had been 'phished'. Such online attacks — called 'phishing'- that rely on human interaction, are on the rise. They are easy to execute and are getting increasingly sophisticated because of the use of artificial intelligence (AI). Also called 'social engineering attacks', these practices don't require complex hacking and rely on psychological manipulation of human emotions.
