Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin has a provision for people to conduct a «self-survey», the government informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. In a written reply, Union Minister of State for Rural Development Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani said the government approved the proposal for implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) for five more years. Approval was also accorded for updating the Awaas+ list for identifying eligible rural households using modified exclusion criteria under the scheme. «In line with the approval of the government of India, a survey is being conducted for the identification of additional eligible rural households under the scheme,» the minister said.

ISRO on Tuesday said it carried out 'well deck' recovery trials of the Gaganyaan with the Indian Navy on December 6. The trials were carried out at Eastern Naval Command using a well deck ship off the coast of Vishakhapatnam, ISRO said in a statement. The space agency said the well deck in a ship can be flooded with water so that boats, landing crafts, recovered spacecraft can be taken inside to dock within the ship. Once the Crew Module touches down in the sea at the end of the mission, crew have to be recovered in the minimum possible time and with the least discomfort, it said.

Supreme Court on Tuesday said courts must exercise caution in dowry harassment cases to prevent misuse of law and avoid unnecessary trouble to innocent family members observing a tendency to implicate husband's kin. A bench of Justices B V Nagarathna and N Kotiswar Singh said a mere reference to the names of family members in a criminal case arising out of a matrimonial dispute, without specific allegations indicating their active involvement, should be nipped in the bud. «It is a well-recognised fact, borne out of judicial experience, that there is often a tendency to implicate all the members of the husband's family when domestic disputes arise out of a matrimonial discord. Such generalised and sweeping accusations unsupported by concrete evidence or particularised allegations cannot form the basis for criminal prosecution,» it said. The top court, therefore, said courts must exercise caution in such cases to prevent misuse of legal provisions and the legal process and avoid unnecessary harassment of innocent family members.

Cement dealers across the country have hiked prices since the start of December after four to five months of flat prices that has reduced dealer margins and affected the profits of cement companies. European Union on Tuesday agreed to hold the first-ever ministerial strategic foreign policy dialogue soon to jointly navigate an array of critical challenges including geo-political tensions and Chinese belligerence in the Indo-Pacific and beyond. The decision to institute the strategic dialogue was taken during a phone conversation between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his counterpart from the 27-nation bloc Kaja Kallas. In a post on 'X', Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said it was agreed to hold the first ministerial strategic foreign policy dialogue soon. The move to hold the dialogue comes months before India and the EU hold summit-level talks in New Delhi that is expected to see significant outcomes in terms of deepening of cooperation in a range of areas such as security, digital public infrastructure and trade.

A well deck—a ship compartment that can be flooded to allow boats, landing crafts, or spacecraft to dock is a preferred option for recovering the module.

Meta in a blog post said it has partnered with a top internet safety expert and ethical hacker, Rachel Tobac, to share how scammers might be targeting people online this holiday season and how to avoid scams. Meta disrupted scam campaigns targeting holiday shoppers outside of our platforms and took thousands of malicious URLs that impersonated Meta’s apps off the internet, it said in a statement.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday said he never met industrialist Gautam Adani and sought to know if the BJP and its ally, the PMK, were prepared for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe on the Adani issue. Responding to a question raised by PMK leader G K Mani in the Assembly, Stalin said he had no connection whatsoever with the industrialist whom the PMK and the BJP were spreading a 'misinformation' campaign that he had links. «Electricity Minister Senthil Balaji has already explained in a detailed manner. I and Adani have no ties at all. Are you prepared for a JPC probe on the issue,» Stalin asked, pointing at Mani. The Congress and some other opposition parties have been demanding a JPC probe following the indictment of Adani and other company officials in a US court over bribery allegations.
