sports administrator Randhir Singh on Sunday became the first Indian to be elected as the president of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) during the 44th General Assembly of the continental body here. A five-time Olympic shooter, Randhir was the lone eligible candidate for the OCA president's post. His tenure will run from 2024 till 2028, and his election was unanimous. The 77-year-old Randhir has been the OCA acting president since 2021, filling in for Kuwait's Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, who was handed a 15-year ban from sports administration in May this year over ethics breaches. Randhir, who held different administrative posts in Indian and Asian sports bodies, was officially named OCA president in the presence of Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and top sports leaders from all 45 countries of Asia.

We had to dress her eye every six hours. For her to play with the infection shows how resilient she is”, said Dr Ameya Kagali, medical head of the contingent.

It’s not exactly how MANU BHAKER wanted to enjoy her Olympic success — two bronze medals. After a hectic schedule, she was looking forward to ‘some time off’ where she would put her feet up and just relax. Excerpts What has changed around you since winning the Olympic medals? I have been attending a lot of events since then. Which is okay because I enjoy everything. It was pre-decided that I would take a long break after the Olympics. But because of these events, I have been travelling a lot. I had thought I would get some time off and I would sleep, have rest, and stay at home. But I haven’t got time to do all that. I am not complaining (laughs). I am enjoying this phase also.

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises more than doubled their revenues for the year ended March 2024, with significant improvements in profitability, largely on the back of increased share from the league’s central revenue pool during IPL 2023. The 10 teams collectively received Rs 4,670 crore from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the IPL 2023 compared to Rs 2,205-crore share from the central pool for the IPL 2022, as per BCCI’s annual report for FY23. “The first eight IPL franchisees have been profitable for more than eight years now and their profits have significantly increased in FY24, and are expected to be at that level going forward due to the media rights renewal in 2022 and the resulting increase in the central pool,” D and P Advisory managing partner Santosh N said.
