Australia's 126% student visa fee hike makes Indian students consider Plan B
Australia’s international student community. Financial Impact on Indian Students The 126% hike in visa fees comes at a time when global inflation and rising living costs are already making studying abroad more expensive. For Indian students, who number 118,109 in Australia as of 2024, the additional AUD 890 fee represents a significant financial burden, especially for middle-income families managing tuition, accommodation, and living expenses. The increase has drawn attention to the overall affordability of Australian education, which has been a preferred choice for Indian students due to its world-class universities and post-study work opportunities. However, recent trends, including declining student numbers (down from 126,487 in 2023), suggest that rising costs and other challenges are making Australia a less attractive destination.

Earnings growth key to market momentum: Ashish Gupta
market, there are multiple stocks that are still trading about 50-time earnings," says Ashish Gupta, CIO, Axis Mutual Fund. No doubt the markets have seen a very good recovery from the lows that it hit in the month of November, but one of the crucial questions now that will be on everyone's mind is that, is India value buy after the recent sell-off? Ashish Gupta: So, it is great that some of the froth in the market and in the valuations have come off in the month of October. However, I do not think in terms of multiple, the market has really come into a value zone yet. Of course, there are individual stocks that are now much more attractive, but on an aggregate basis, I do not think the market multiples have corrected as much.

Shiva Temple under Ajmer Sharif Dargah? Here is all about the latest controversy about another shrine
Ajmer has sent waves of controversy across the country, especially it's political segment. Since the row over the Ajmer Sharif began on Wednesday, concerns have been raised over a Rajasthan court’s notice regarding a lawsuit over the Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti shrine claiming the famous Sufi shrine was originally a Shiva temple. The row has even led some to accuse former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud of opening a «Pandora's box» that could fuel communal tensions and even lead to violence. The petition, filed in September in a local Ajmer court, seeks directions to begin worship at the Ajmer Shrine as a Shiva temple. Vishnu Gupta, the plaintiff, claimed that a Shiva temple existed at the site before the dargah was built and that it should be declared a Hindu place of worship. His request for a survey of the site by the ASI and the cancellation of any official registration of the dargah has sparked widespread debate.

The bench headed by Justice C. Hari Shankar and Justice Amit Sharma observed that «there can be no cavil with the finding of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) that defective colour vision is a defect. As such, the petitioners clearly suffer from a defect which renders them unfit for appointment as constables in the Delhi Police.» The High Court further held that the standards of medical fitness of candidates in forces, including Delhi Police, have to be stricter and higher than those who apply for civilian posts.

Shahid Afridi slams BCCI for mixing politics with cricket, backs Pakistan's stand against hybrid model
Shahid Afridi has extended his support to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not accepting the hybrid model for next year's Champions Trophy, scheduled to be played in Pakistan. The veteran all-rounder has blamed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for 'intertwining politics with sports' and called for ICC to 'uphold fairness and assert their authority'. The ICC Board meeting is set to take place on Friday to decide the schedule of the marquee tournament. The BCCI has told ICC that the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan for the tournament due to the Indian government's disallowance. However, the PCB is reluctant to host the entire tournament in Pakistan, leaving the future of the Champions Trophy uncertain. Afridi added that Pakistan have travelled to India five times since the Mumbai terror attacks that deteriorated the relations of the neighbouring countries.

With GDP due today, India's middle class consumption story has 3 protagonists
The ripple-effects of the slowed consumption was seen in India Inc's performance for the second quarter which clocked a revenue growth of 16-quarter-low. Moreover, India is due to report its Q2 GDP figures today, which may further push the Indian consumption story. According to a report by Marcellus Investment Managers, three key factors are contributing to this phenomenon: increasing automation in routine jobs, a cyclical economic downturn, and deteriorating household balance sheets.
