Delhi Pollution: Coal plants' target miss to add to the deadly smog
About three-quarters of the coal-fired generators near major cities are set to miss a year-end deadline to install equipment to curb sulfur-dioxide emissions, according to people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified as the information isn’t public. If fully implemented, such systems could cut India’s emissions of the pollutant by almost two-thirds, benefiting air quality and public health, according to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air. Sulfur dioxide breaks down into sulfates, which can account for almost a third of the particulate mass that forms India’s smog, according to Manoj Kumar, an analyst at the Finland-based research group.

Australia prepares to take on India during the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series at Perth's Optus Stadium, a batter extremely crucial in deciding the match would be the Aussie number three Marnus Labuschagne, currently ranked at number 10 in Test rankings and considered as the glue of the batting line-up along with Steve Smith, keeping an attacking, high on intensity unit together. The 30-year-old Labuschagne has not been in the best of form as of late. Not healthy for our democracy: Amit Deshmukh responds to allegations against Vinod Tawde in cash-for-votes row
Congress candidate from Latur City, Amit Deshmukh, on Wednesday after casting his vote expressed concerns over the recent allegations involving BJP leader Vinod Tawde's involvement in alleged cash distribution ahead of the assembly elections. Deshmukh stated, «I don't think that the allegations are baseless. You all have seen what happened, but it seems like no action is being taken. It appears that the matter is being swept under the carpet, but this is not good for democracy. This is not healthy for our electoral system or our democracy.» Deshmukh, however, remained optimistic about the election results. He said, «I believe that when the results come, the Maha Vikas Aghadi will have the support of more than 200 MLAs.» According to Deshmukh, the final seat distribution and decisions on the next steps will only be made after the results are declared.

Robots struggle to match warehouse workers on 'Really Hard' jobs
Amazon warehouse near Nashville, Tennessee, a robotic arm named Cardinal on a recent day stacked packages, Tetris-style, into 6 1/2-foot-high carts. Then Proteus, an autonomous platform, moved the carts to the loading bay, flashing electronic eyes designed to make the robot more appealing to human colleagues. As robots become more capable, they are performing an increasing number of tasks in warehouses and delivery centers with varying degrees of aptitude and speed. Machines can load and unload trucks. They can place goods on pallets and take them off. Robots can shift items around in inventory, pick up packages and move goods on warehouse floors. And they can do all this without a human minder guiding their every move. Yet, even though robots are starting to take over some repetitive and cumbersome jobs, there are still many tasks they are not good at, making it difficult to know when or if robots will be able to fully automate this industry.

Animal sacrifice: Did Diddy turn to supernatural forces to help him win a case 25 years ago? His ex-bodyguard makes startling claims
Sean Diddy Combs named Gene Deal has eventually made some sensational claims regarding an alleged animal sacrifice ritual performed by the hip-hop mogul just hours before he was acquitted of charges related to a 1999 nightclub shooting, reported Daily News. Gold price today: Gold rate in US hits new high. Here's why
Gold prices climbed for a second consecutive session on Tuesday, hitting a one-week high as mounting Russia-Ukraine tensions sparked a rush for safe-haven assets, while investors awaited key signals on the Federal Reserve's interest rate plans. Spot gold rose 0.6 per cent to $2,628.76 per ounce by 01:42 p.m.(ET), hitting its highest level since November 11. U.S. gold futures settled 0.6 per cent higher at $2,631 per ounce. On Monday, gold jumped 2 per cent, marking its biggest one-day rise since mid-August and rebounding sharply from a two-month low hit last week, Reuters reported. «We think that the overnight reports on Russia changing its nuclear doctrine following Ukraine's first long-range missile strike on Russian territory has led to some safe-haven flows in gold,» said Daniel Ghali, commodity strategist at TD Securities.

National Capital Region. Builders and brokers in cities like Dehradun, Kasauli, Rishikesh, Nainital and Shimla said many from NCR's middle-class, who cannot afford a luxury second home, have approached them in the past few days looking for properties that fit into their budgets. «The rising demand for second homes in serene locations like Kasauli and Rishikesh is a direct result of increasing pollution levels in the NCR. Homebuyers are seeking refuge in these destinations, drawn by their clean air, natural beauty, and peaceful environments,» said Amar Kapoor, founder of Terra Grande by Eldeco Group, which is developing vacation homes at Kasauli and Rishikesh.

High pollution may boost demand for respiratory drugs
air pollution continues to wreak havoc, the respiratory segment is expected to grow further in the coming months. While the domestic pharma market is largely driven by anti-diabetics and cardiac therapies, respiratory therapies are expected to lead the growth in November, December and January, pharma experts said. According to market research firm Pharmarack, the respiratory segment is valued at ₹16,413 crore, growing at a compound annual rate of 12%. The anti-asthma and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) products have grown from ₹6,094 crore MAT (moving annual turnover) value in October 2021 to ₹9,960 crore in October 2024. Likewise, the cough and cold market has grown from ₹2,926 crore MAT value to ₹4,129 crore during the same period. «The respiratory market shows the normal seasonal trend for the anti-asthma and cough and cold segment,» said Sheetal Sapale, VP, commercial, Pharmarack. «There were fewer reported cases in October 2024 compared to October 2023, hence there is de-growth in the market. The market peaks in December and January and then gradually subsides as winter loses its intensity,» Sapale said.
