The right to exist
Dalai Lama The purpose of life is to strive for happiness. We are here; we exist and we have the right to exist. Even non-sentient beings like flowers have the right to exist. And, as sentient beings, we have even more mechanisms to help us survive. Pleasure and pain, happiness and unhappiness, are things that we need to examine in depth. For example, every sentient being has the right to survive; this means having a desire for happiness or comfort: that's why sentient beings strive to survive. Therefore, our survival is based on hope — hope for something good: happiness....

US Election results: Is Elon Musk winning polls for Donald Trump?
Donald Trump had spent the past several years deriding early and absentee voting. However, Elon Musk's political team, which was advising the Tesla CEO on his nascent pro-Trump super PAC, informed him that Republicans could win Georgia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania only if they delivered on those kinds of votes, as per a report. Musk was aghast — and so he reached out to Trump, then the presumptive Republican nominee. You've got to stop telling people not to vote early, Musk texted, according to two people to whom Musk told this story. He was unsure his message was received, NYT News Service reported. But later that evening, Trump posted on Truth Social, «ABSENTEE VOTING, EARLY VOTING, AND ELECTION DAY VOTING ARE ALL GOOD OPTIONS.»

Uniform Civil Code won't be allowed in Jharkhand: CM Hemant Soren
Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would be implemented in Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren hit back saying neither the UCC nor the National Register of Citizens (NRC) would be allowed in the state. Soren emphasised that Jharkhand would adhere only to the Chotanagpur Tenancy (CNT) and Santhal Pargana Tenancy (SPT) Acts to protect tribal culture, land, and rights. «Neither the UCC nor the NRC will be implemented here. Jharkhand will rely solely on the Chotanagpur Tenancy and Santhal Pargana Tenancy Acts. These people (the BJP) are spewing venom and do not care about tribals, natives, Dalits, or backward communities,» Soren said at a rally in Garhwa. Soren's reaction followed Shah's remarks while releasing the BJP's manifesto, in which he said, «Our government will introduce the UCC in Jharkhand, but tribals will be kept out of its ambit. Hemant Soren and the JMM government are making false propaganda that the UCC will impact tribal rights, culture, and relevant legislation, which is totally baseless.»

Will bring stringent law to prevent transfer of tribal land to infiltrators in Jharkhand: Amit Shah
Amit Shah on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the JMM-led government in Jharkhand, accusing it of «patronising Bangladeshi infiltrators for vote bank politics» and asserted that if the BJP was voted to power in the state, it will enact stringent legislation to prevent transfer of tribal land to illegal immigrants. Shah also announced that Naxalism would be eradicated from the country by March 2026 and that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would be implemented in Jharkhand without impacting the tribal population. Addressing a BJP rally at Dhalbhumgarh in Ghatshila, Shah claimed that the tribal population in Jharkhand was declining due to the Hemant Soren government treating «Bangladeshi infiltrators as its vote bank.» «Bangladeshi infiltration is causing a sharp decline in tribal population in Jharkhand, especially in Santhal Parganas and Kolhan regions… the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance is encouraging it for petty political gains,» he alleged.

Amid concerns over overleveraging of microfinance borrowers at the industry level, Ujjivan Small Finance has started chasing the next aspiration—a universal banking licence. For the first time ever, the bank has said in no uncertain terms that it would apply for the licence no later than March 2025. In his first ever media interaction after taking the driver’s seat, managing director Sanjeev Nautiyal discussed with ET's Atmadip Ray the business decisions that are taking shape at the bank's headquarters in Bengaluru. Executive director Carol Furtado also joined the conversation. Here is an edited excerpt: Q. Ujjivan is one of the just two small finance banks eligible to apply for universal banking licence at this point of time. AU has already thrown the hat in the ring. What is Ujjivan up to? Sanjeev Nautiyal: We are working on a plan and within this financial year, we see ourselves in a very good position to make an application to the Reserve Bank of India. Has the Ujjivan board approved it? Sanjeev Nautiyal: The board is agreeable to the fact that we should apply. We are building a strategy based on the guidance provided by the board.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma end disastrous home Test season ahead of make-or-break Australia tour
Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma ended what was a disastrous home Test season ahead of the highly-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia away from home starting from November 22 onwards. In the third and final Test of the series against New Zealand, Virat and Rohit once again got out for low scores. During a run-chase of 147 runs, Rohit was dismissed for 11 runs by Matt Henry and caught by Glenn Phillips. On the other hand, Virat was dismissed for just one run in four balls on a delivery by Ajaz Patel. His woes against spinners continued as he handed an easy catch to Daryl Mitchell at slips. With these dismissals, Virat and Rohit have concluded extremely underwhelming home season consisting of series against Bangladesh and Kiwis. It does not serve as a good sign for the team ahead of the high-profile BGT series. Only a massive win in the series would help India secure their third-successive ICC World Test Championship final appearance at Lord's next year.
