Canada extends streamlined medical exam exemption for low-risk immigrants until 2029
Canada (IRCC) has extended a temporary public policy that exempts certain low-risk foreign nationals within Canada from needing an additional immigration medical examination (IME). The policy, which has been in place for two years, will now continue until October 5, 2029. This extension is designed to speed up application processing and enhance services for eligible applicants. The exemption applies to foreign nationals who have either a new or pending application for permanent or temporary residence or a permanent resident visa made from within Canada. To qualify, applicants must have completed an IME within the past five years, even if it has expired. They should have posed no public health or safety risk or have reported to public health authorities as required for monitoring. This policy has already benefited more than 286,000 individuals, enabling faster processing and reducing bureaucratic delays. By extending it, IRCC aims to continue improving operational efficiency while monitoring public health outcomes in partnership with the Public Health Agency of Canada. This also allows more time to assess the long-term effectiveness of the streamlined process.

Russian stealth drone crashes in Ukraine: Here's the mystery behind the falling S-70 Okhotnik drone
S-70 Okhotnik stealth drone was shot down over Kostiantynivka, a city in Ukraine's Donetsk region. While initial reports from Telegram channels suggested Ukrainian forces may have been responsible, further investigation confirmed that the drone was destroyed by Russian forces in a friendly fire incident. The drone, part of Russia’s next-generation unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) program, was reportedly downed during a test flight. According to sources from Ukraine's Defense Forces, Russian commanders ordered the destruction of the drone to prevent it from falling into Ukrainian hands after losing control. This decision marked a significant blow to Russia's military operations, as the Okhotnik was a key part of the Russian Aerospace Forces' ongoing drone warfare efforts.

Caste Census Survey: Siddaramaiah faces pressure from within Congress to place it before Cabinet
Siddaramaiah has come under pressure from sections of OBC and SC/ST leaders to place the caste census report before the Cabinet – a demand he has agreed with, having always espoused the causes of minorities, OBCs and SC/STs. BK Hariprasad, permanent invitee at Congress Working Committee, on Sunday urged the CM to take steps to implement the caste census report without any loss of time even if it were to endanger survival of the Congress regime. Hariprasad, an MLC, has been a known critic of the CM, and his sharp comments are bound to provoke reactions from within the Congress ranks. The CM, speaking to the media at Raichur on Saturday, said he would place the 13-volume findings, submitted to the government in February, before the Cabinet for a decision. The report is officially called the economic, social and educational report and the government has not made the findings public fearing backlash from Lingayats and Vokkaligas, the two major communities.

Who is Elon Musk's mother, and why is she facing backlash in the US amid the presidential polls?
Maye Musk, the mother of Elon Musk, has come under heavy criticism after suggesting people vote with fake names in US elections. Her remarks on social media led some to notify the FBI and federal authorities, citing concerns over promoting «voter fraud.» Maye Musk posted on social media platform X, “The Democrats have given us another option. You don’t have to register to vote. On Election Day, have 10 fake names, go to 10 polling booths and vote 10 times. That’s 100 votes, and it’s not illegal. Maybe we should work the system too.” The post, which gathered over 2.5 million views, faced severe backlash. Many users pointed out that her suggestion was illegal. One user tagged the FBI offices and wrote, “This person seems to be advocating for people to commit voter fraud on a large scale. They are also misinforming by claiming it is legal to do so. Please note for post election follow up.”

India's easing of rice exports welcomed in S Africa
India's decision to ease restrictions on rice exports. Last month, the Indian government withdrew a blanket ban on overseas shipments of non-basmati white rice. It imposed a floor price of USD 490 per tonne and exempted the commodity from export duty. Exports of non-basmati white rice were banned from July 20, 2023, to boost domestic supply. «It's welcoming news for all the importers like us, as South Africa imports roughly 10 million tonnes of rice every year. After Thailand and Vietnam, which account for 70 per cent of imports of rice in South Africa, India is the next biggest exporter of rice to South Africa,» said Pranav Thakkar of Dev International, one of the largest importers of Indian products to South Africa.

When Zerodha's Nithin Kamath asked Nikhil to cry, after younger brother's breakup
During the podcast, Nithin Kamath emphasized the importance of maintaining good mental health, drawing from his own experiences. “Mental health is something I care about quite a bit,” he said. “For me, it’s about not keeping anything in my mind—just letting it out.” Nithin explained that holding onto thoughts and emotions only complicates matters, encouraging a more open approach to dealing with personal issues. Nikhil Kamath, the younger of the two, shared an instance from his life where Nithin’s advice played a crucial role. Playfully reflecting on the time during the COVID-19 lockdown, Nikhil spoke about a breakup he went through while living with his brother. “We both were in one house together and we had broken up at that point of time. So Nithin's advice to me: I'm like going through a breakup, we're like getting reasonably intoxicated every night for 2 months,” Nikhil said.
