Analysis of Himalayan districts shows Lahaul and Spiti most vulnerable to avalanches
Lahaul and Spiti' is the most vulnerable to avalanches in Himachal Pradesh, while Chamoli the most vulnerable in Uttarakhand, according to an analysis of 11 districts in the two Himalayan states. An increase in avalanches in the Indian Western Himalayas in recent years has been attributed to the combined effects of multiple factors, including climate change, complex terrain and increasing human activities. Researchers Akshay Singhal, M. Kavya and Sanjeev K. Jha, from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhopal, proposed an analytical framework for developing a 'CAVI' score, or 'combined avalanche vulnerability index'. «The CAVI shows that all the highly vulnerable districts are located in Himachal Pradesh, while most of the districts of Uttarakhand are moderately vulnerable,» the authors wrote in the study published in the journal Environment, Development and Sustainability. «The district 'Lahaul and Spiti' is the most vulnerable district, while Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) and Pauri Garhwal (Uttarakhand) are the least vulnerable,» they wrote. They added, «The most vulnerable district in Uttarakhand is Chamoli.»

Mamaearth’s Ghazal Alagh says don't give 100% every day. What is her success formula?
Mamaearth's Ghazal Alagh suggests doing the opposite. Her advice? Don’t give your 100%. But why? In a LinkedIn post, the youngest self-made entrepreneur shared a fresh perspective on productivity, emphasizing that giving 100% every single day might not be the best approach to building a solid business. Reflecting on years of relentless work, she realized that constantly striving for perfection can backfire. Instead, she advocates for what she calls the "85% Rule"—a strategy of focused effort and smart prioritization. She draws a parallel with top athletes who, despite rigorous training, understand the importance of rest and recovery. That balance allows them to perform at their peak when it truly matters. The same principle applies to entrepreneurship.

Religare Enterprises seeks governance review, funding from Burman family
Religare Enterprises on Monday said its board is seeking a governance review of the company and its units, and has also approached the billionaire Burman family for funding support after they took control of the company last month. The Burman family, who founded and control consumer goods conglomerate Dabur India, acquired control of the financial services provider in February after a 17-month takeover battle. The objective is to review past operating practices, suggest improvements and to identify any potential instances of misconduct by certain current and/or former employees of Religare and its units, the company said in an exchange filing. Religare also said it observed a «cash-flow gap» over the next few months and has decided to approach the Burmans for immediate funding support to sustain the operations of the company. The company did not specify details regarding the extent of the funding.

India’s exports to US may fall 3-3.5% post reciprocal tariffs, diverse exports to offset impact: SBI Research
reciprocal tariffs, which should be negated through higher export goals across both manufacturing and services fronts, SBI Research said Monday. This, it said, will be driven by India’s diversified exports kitty, value addition, alternate areas and new routes that transcend from Europe to the US via the Middle-East, redrawing new supply chain algorithms. “We estimated the decline in exports in the range of 3-3.5% which again should be negated through higher export goals across both manufacturing and services fronts,” SBI Research said, adding that India stands to gain in an increasingly uncertain world of tariffs. India has a $13 million trade deficit for aluminium and $406 million for steel with the US and can potentially take advantage of this. India is among the top 10 sources for aluminium for the US but its share has declined to 2.8% in 2024 from 3% in 2018. India is negotiating free trade agreement (FTA) with the UK, Canada, and the EU, targeting sectors like services, digital trade, and sustainable development. “The shift towards regional supply chains and the impact of geopolitical changes, such as the US tariff war are influencing India’s FTA strategies to ensure alignment with global trade dynamics,” it said.

Last men standing: How mutual fund investors are holding the line against ruthless FIIs
foreign institutional investors (FIIs), who have been unloading Indian equities at an alarming pace. Since the market peaked in September 2024, FIIs have pulled out a staggering Rs 2.13 lakh crore, testing the resilience of India's stock market. Yet, domestic mutual fund investors have fought back, pouring in nearly Rs 1.88 lakh crore between October and February—emerging as the last line of defence against the selloff. In February 2025, even as volatility rattled the markets, mutual fund inflows remained positive for the 48th consecutive month, coming in at Rs 29,303 crore. While this marked a 26% decline from January, it highlighted the unwavering commitment of domestic investors, who have kept faith in Indian equities despite global headwinds. Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) contributions remained strong at Rs 25,999 crore—surpassing the September figure of Rs 24,509 crore and underscoring the growing financial discipline of retail investors.

Riding the market waves: Why SIPs thrive in volatile times
The nature of stock markets is very dynamic, it changes constantly, at a very fast pace from time to time. Due to this nature, investors keep anticipating a ‘perfect’ time to invest that may never arrive. When market volatility hits, behavioural biases can take the best of the investors, ultimately resulting in them making irrational decisions. Moreover, market volatility gives birth to behavioural biases that can make some investors greedy and others too risk averse, which can further impact their decision-making ability.

Vadodara accident accused blames airbags, eyewitnesses say he asked for 'another round' after mishap
«We were going ahead of the scooty, we were turning right and there was a pothole on the road. There was a scooty and a car while we were turning right… The car slightly touched the other vehicle and the airbag opened suddenly, our vision was hampered and the car went out of control. We were going at 50 km/hour,» said Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia, who has been arrested after the accident. A woman was killed on the spot and four others sustained injuries in the accident on Friday. The accident occurred around 12.30 am near Muktanand cross roads in the Karelibaug area. The 20-year-old law student was allegedly speeding and cops said it could be a case of drunk driving as eyewitnesses, who caught Chaurasiya at the scene, told the police that he appeared intoxicated and was screaming «another round, another round» after coming out of the car.
