Delhi Metro to carry cargo in last coach during non-peak hours
Delhi Metro will now carry cargo in its trains during non-peak hours as part of a collaboration between Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and express logistics provider Blue Dart. Metro services on most lines begin at 6 am and the initial trials for this initiative were conducted on the Blue Line for a few days.
Sustainability and Efficiency Goals
«This innovative initiative, the first of its kind in the entire South Asia Pacific region, reinforces both DMRC and Blue Dart's commitment to environmental stewardship and fostering more sustainable logistics solutions,» said Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director, Corporate Communications at DMRC.
By shifting some cargo movement from roads to metro trains, the initiative aims to reduce traffic congestion and vehicular emissions. DMRC sees this as an opportunity to optimize its resources while promoting eco-friendly transport solutions.
