Spain's party islands have had enough of rowdy tourists; ban alcohol sales at night
Balearic Islands, including popular destinations like Mallorca and Ibiza, are taking decisive action to address issues of excessive drinking and rowdiness in holiday hotspots. According to reports from the Sun, the local government has voted to impose a complete ban on alcohol sales from 9.30pm to 8am, aiming to tackle problems associated with tourism. Effective immediately, this prohibition seeks to mitigate the impact of excessive tourism, with specific measures targeting areas like Llucmajor, Palma, Calvia (Magalluf), and Sant Antoni in Ibiza. Alongside the alcohol ban, party boats are prohibited from operating within one nautical mile of these towns or picking up passengers from them. These new regulations supplement previous measures implemented in 2020, which restricted activities such as happy hours, pub crawls, and two-for-one drink promotions. Jaime Martínez, the mayor of Palma, expressed hope that these laws would address inappropriate behavior.

International calls for iPhones made in India ring louder; Apple may hit Rs 1 lakh cr export mark in FY25
Apple has started FY25 with a bang in India — exports of iPhones made in the country nearly doubled in April to $1.1 billion (Rs 9,000 crore) from $580 million a year ago, according to official data reviewed by ET. April is typically a low-export month as there aren’t too many festive sales in any part of the world during the month, experts said. Based on this, they expect the US giant to achieve the Rs 1 lakh crore export mark in FY25 as India emerges as the firm’s second manufacturing base for iPhones outside China. iPhones are only made in India and China and experts estimate that 14-15% production has shifted to India and is likely to reach 26% by 2026. Apple exports a bulk of its total India production. In FY24, Apple’s total production in India touched $14 billion (Rs 1.2 lakh crore). The company’s exports crossed $10 billion (Rs 85,000 crore). Both these figures were the highest achieved by any company in India till date for a single financial year.

India needs to focus on factor market reforms to propel growth to double digit: ADB Chief Economist
factor market reforms like land and labour to propel India's growth to a double-digit trajectory, ADB Chief Economist Albert Park has said. «There are still concerns that the basic factor markets like land and labour in the formal sector of unemployment in India are still small. So, you really want to formalise those,» he told PTI in an interview. The factor market reforms include land, labour, energy, and access to credit, among others, which are critical factors for production. Labour reforms have been approved by Parliament in 2020, but it has not been implemented. In 2019 and 2020, 29 central labour laws were amalgamated, rationalised and simplified into four labour codes — the Code on Wages, 2019; the Industrial Relations Code, 2020; the Code on Social Security, 2020; and the Occupational Safety, Health & Working Conditions Code, 2020.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Derek O'Brien on Sunday tore into claims made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at poll rallies in West Bengal, saying two videos that have come out on the Sandeshkhali issue have exposed the "conspiracy to malign" the state. On a day when Modi addressed four rallies in support of the BJP's Lok Sabha poll candidates in West Bengal, O'Brien shared a fact-check report on X and called the prime minister the «Lyin King». «We often fact check Narendra Modi… 'The Lyin King' just ended his third and fourth speeches. So much of deceit, falsehood and hate, that even our fact check meter broke down,» the TMC leader said in a post on the microblogging platform. «Two Sandeshkhali videos exposed BJP's conspiracy to malign Bengal and humiliate women. Concocted by Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikhari. Bribed and forced women to sign a blank paper and file false rape complaints. BJP shelters molesters: Brij Bhushan Singh, Prajwal Revanna. Unnao, Kathua, Hathras,» the document shared by O'Brien read.

However, to fully realise its benefits, GoI needs to address structural issues related to electricity market design and tariff, power purchase contracts, and infrastructure requirements. The promise of 300 units of free electricity for setting up rooftop solar panels is attractive.

Not in 'rat race' to be top builder in terms of sale bookings, says Macrotech Developers MD
Macrotech Developers is not in a «rat race» to become the top builder in terms of sale bookings and will rather focus on achieving consistent and predictable growth with high-profit margins, its MD and CEO Abhishek Lodha said. Macrotech Developers, which markets its properties under Lodha brand, registered a 20 per cent growth in its sale bookings (pre-sales) to a record Rs 14,520 crore last fiscal from Rs 12,060 crore in the 2022-23 financial year. It has given guidance of achieving 21 per cent annual growth in sale bookings this fiscal to Rs 17,500 crore. When asked about the reason for setting a conservative sale bookings guidance considering that few players posted more than Rs 20,000 crore pre-sales in FY24 itself, Lodha told PTI, «We are not in any rat race and neither our shareholders are bothered about any such rat race.»

D2C space: Investments in "not my parents' brands" are #trending
D2C) space are following a new thesis for placing their bets: to back young brands that focus on Gen Z (those born between 1997-2012) and have nothing to do with incumbent brands popular among older consumers. At Titan Capital run by Snapdeal cofounders Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal, this unwritten investment thesis has a name — «not my parents' brand». Several such brands have emerged over the past few years across food and beverages, home furnishing, fashion and footwear, oral care, and luggage, including Perfora, Mokobara, Nasher Miles, Wakefit, SleepyCat, Hocco and NIC. This phenomenon of not using parents' brands is visible in even sectors such as automotive and smartphones, Bahl said. «Consumers are increasingly gravitating towards new-generation EV brands, motivated not only by environmental concerns but also by a desire to differentiate themselves from their parents' preferences,» he told ET.
