Iran unveiled new weaponry on Saturday including what it said was the locally made Arman anti-ballistic missile system and the Azarakhsh low-altitude air defense system, the official IRNA news agency reported. The announcement came amid heightened tensions in the region, with Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi militants carrying out a string of attacks on vessels linked to the U.S., UK and Israel in the Red Sea in a show of solidarity with the Gaza Strip. Gaza has been under military assault by Israel since Hamas's attacks on Israel's south on Oct. 7.

Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis said on Saturday that they had fired missiles at oil tanker Pollux, which U.S. officials said the previous day had been hit by a missile. The U.S. State Department said on Friday that the Pollux, a Panamanian-flagged tanker carrying crude oil bound for India, was hit by a missile on its port side. «The naval forces of the Yemeni Armed Forces carried out a targeting operation against a British oil ship (Pollux) in the Red Sea with a large number of appropriate naval missiles, and the strikes were accurate and direct», the Houthis' military spokesperson, Yahya Sarea, said in a statement.

The US State Department announced on Friday that a Panamanian-flagged tanker transporting crude oil destined for India, was targeted by a missile in the Red Sea. According to the State Department, the missile, originating from Yemen, struck the M/T Pollux on its port side. Prior to this, both the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency and the British maritime security firm Ambrey had reported that a Panama-flagged tanker was allegedly hit approximately 72 nautical miles (133 km) northwest of Yemen’s port of Mokha.

Buy or sell stocks: Following strong global market sentiments, the Indian stock market ended higher for the fourth day in a row on Friday. The Nifty 50 index shot up 129 points and finished at 22,040 level, the BSE Sensex surged 376 points and closed at 72,426 mark while the Bank Nifty index ended 165 points up at 46,384 level. In the broad market, both small-cap and mid-cap indices outperformed the key benchmark indices even as the advance-decline ratio remained firm at 1.56:1.

Russia has fired at least 24 North Korean ballistic missiles at Ukraine since Dec. 30, in strikes that have largely missed relevant military targets and killed at least 14 civilians, Ukrainian authorities said on Friday. Andriy Kostin, Ukraine's prosecutor general, said a preliminary assessment enabled Kyiv to ascertain the ballistic missiles were from North Korea, and of the KN-23/24 series, the latest in an array of missiles used by Russia for air strikes. The Kremlin has neither denied nor confirmed its use of North Korean-made missiles and ammunition.
