FIIs correct November mistake with $3 billion shopping. Is Santa already here?
foreign institutional investors (FIIs) are taking reverse steps to buy back more than what they sold last month. As against the $2.5 billion sell-off seen in November, FIIs have already bought Indian stocks worth around $3 billion in the first 10 days of the December month. As a result, the Nifty is already up around 2% this month with bulls betting that the momentum could turn into a strong Santa rally and take the market to new record peaks in the next few weeks before the Budget.

Trump picks pro-Khalistan lawyer as assistant attorney general
Harmeet K Dhillon as assistant attorney general for civil rights at the US Department of Justice may be a headache for India, given her past position on Khalistan-related issues. Dhillon — the latest addition to the list of Indian-Americans in the incoming Republican administration — has been alleged in the past to espouse pro-Khalistan sentiment. She is accused by her critics of sympathising with the cause of Khalistan and helping Khalistanis based in the US. In 2023, reacting to a Wall Street Journal report, Dhillon had posted on X, «Update on India's death squad project, which has claimed the life of at least one Canadian Sikh activist, and which targeted another in the US. Will there be consequences? Prosecutors Charge Indian Man With Trying to Kill Sikh Activists in US.»

Meta warns about online holiday shopping scams that you should watch out for this December
holiday shopping scams that one should watch out for this December. The social media giant has launched a worldwide anti-scam awareness campaign aimed at protecting users from fraudulent schemes during the holiday shopping season. The company, which owns Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, revealed it has taken down over two million accounts linked to scam centers in Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, the UAE, and the Philippines this year. In another instance, Meta said its enforcement efforts have removed 15,000 phishing URLs in Vietnam and 9,000 in Singapore this year to save people from holiday shopping scams. Meta in a blog post said it has partnered with a top internet safety expert and ethical hacker, Rachel Tobac, to share how scammers might be targeting people online this holiday season and how to avoid scams. Meta disrupted scam campaigns targeting holiday shoppers outside of our platforms and took thousands of malicious URLs that impersonated Meta’s apps off the internet, it said in a statement.

Here's how US is countering Islamic State group during Syria's upheaval
Islamic State militants in Syria were meant in part as a message to the group and a move to ensure that it doesn't try to take advantage of the chaos following the overthrow of President Bashar Assad's government. The US and its partners want to make sure the Islamic State group, which still has a presence in Syria, can't step into the leadership void and once again exert control over wide swaths of the country, Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said Monday. The US on Sunday struck about 75 IS targets in the Syrian desert. The US has had troops in Syria for the last decade to battle IS. The tumult following a rebel offensive that toppled Assad has raised fears of an Islamic State resurgence. «ISIS will try to use this period to reestablish its capabilities, to create safe havens,» Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Monday, using another acronym for the group. «As our precision strikes over the weekend demonstrate, we are determined not to let that happen.»
