Indian hotel industry revenue expected to grow 7-9 pc in FY25: ICRA
Indian hotel industry is expected to report a 7-9 per cent revenue growth in FY2025 with occupancy likely to be at decadal highs, ratings agency ICRA said on Tuesday. Sustenance of domestic leisure travel, demand from meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE), including weddings and business travel despite a temporary lull during the election period are likely to drive demand in FY2025, ICRA said in a statement. Spiritual tourism and tier-II cities are also expected to contribute meaningfully in FY2025, it added. ICRA said domestic tourism has been the prime demand driver in FY2024 and is likely to remain so in the near-term. Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTA) are yet to recover to pre-Covid levels and the improvement would depend on the global macroeconomic environment.

Airlines’ chief pleads for more green fuel to save Air travel
airlines’ biggest trade group implored oil producers to make more low-emissions aviation fuel, warning the future of commercial air travel depends on the industry’s successful decarbonization. Sustainable aviation fuel is the best available tool for cutting emissions, International Air Transport Association Director General Willie Walsh said at an aviation summit in Singapore Monday. Demand for the cleaner-burning fuel far outstrips supply, even though it can cost three to five times more than conventional jet fuel. “Every bit of fuel that gets produced would be used because this is an existential issue,” Walsh said. “This industry will not be allowed to grow unless we can prove to our customers, regulators, governments, people in general, that we can grow in a sustainable manner.”

A tale of two sectors: Aviation soars while railways crawl
Demat accounts more than trebled over the covid period, even as mutual funds drew large inflows. The trouble with the hypothesis of asset-earned holidays is that it’s unclear if we have had a wide enough dispersal of sizeable gains. Retail investors with shares worth over ₹1 crore, for example, can possibly envision dividends (and/or notional capital gains) paying for a family holiday, but it is hard to picture new investors in the same league.

Self-Driving Cars Might Just Transform the Way We Work
The head of BMW Group Designworks steered his car into a rest stop, highway traffic whizzing by in the background, and then dialed into his meeting. “I can’t concentrate on driving if I’m talking," says Holger Hampf, whose unit is internally known as “architects of the future." This pit stop, he says, happens to be an excellent example of what will change in the future. One day when cars can eventually drive themselves, executives will be able to sit back and work just as if they were in the office.
