What’s the best way for senior citizens to get a credit card?
Most major banks have a cut-off age of 60 for credit cards, with a few allowing those up to 70 years of age to apply for one. This prevents many senior citizens from getting credit cards even if they fulfill the income and credit score criteria. However, there are workarounds.

US House approves bill to avert midnight shutdown, sends to Senate
midnight government shutdown, defying President-elect Donald Trump's demand to also greenlight trillions of dollars in new debt. Next, the Democratic-controlled Senate would need to pass the bill to ensure the government will be funded beyond midnight (0500 GMT Saturday), when current funding expires. The White House said President Joe Biden intends to sign it into law if they do. The legislation would extend government funding until March 14, provide $100 billion for disaster-hit states and $10 billion for farmers. It would not raise the debt ceiling — a difficult task Trump has pushed Congress to do before he takes office on Jan. 20.

How 2024 turned out to be a turbulent ride for Indian flyers
For air travellers in India, 2024 turned out to be a year of turbulence — both in the skies and on the ground. From hoax bomb threats that forced emergency landings to passengers stranded on tarmacs without basic amenities, and infrastructure failures at key airports, flying often felt like a test of patience rather than a convenience. As fares soared and chaos sustained, India’s aviation sector did unlock milestones but at the same time, the industry grappled with challenges that left travellers frustrated.

Pak junior hockey team will need govt. clearance before applying for India visa: PHF
Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has been told to secure government clearance before confirming participation in the FIH Junior World Cup scheduled in India at the end of next year. PHF Secretary-General Rana Mujahid said the team would require a No Objection Certificate from the federal government for the national squad to travel for the FIH event to be held in December of 2025. «Normally we have always been permitted by our government to play in major events in India in recent years despite the strained relations between the two countries. But now we have been informed to first get clearance before finalising the team and confirming participation,» he told the media here. The Pakistan junior team was unable to take part in the junior World Cup held in Lucknow in December 2016 after the players were not issued visas because of late submission of applications.

Mumbai woman arrested for changing passport arrival date to hide return from parents
immigration officials stopped her from boarding a flight to Toronto. The arrest followed the discovery of irregularities in her passport, which had been tampered with to hide certain details about her travel. Satveer Kaur, a resident of Punjab, was set to travel to Toronto to join a new job after completing her higher studies in Canada. However, when officials examined her passport, they found that the arrival date of September 28 had been deleted. The police later revealed that Kaur had removed this date to prevent her parents from knowing when she had returned to India. According to a police official, «She said that her parents were unaware about her arrival on Sept 28. She did not want her parents to know about it as she had gone to meet her friend.»
