Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will move the high court on Monday questioning the grant of permission to prosecute him by Governor Thawarchand Gehlot in a case of allotment of sites to his wife in Mysuru as the Congress has decided to raise the pitch of its campaign against the BJP. The ruling party will hold state-wide protest demonstrations against the Governor’s action on Monday. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, who is also the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), said the party workers and leaders will hold rallies in all district headquarters. The party has, however, asked its workers to observe peaceful protests and ensure anti-social elements don’t infiltrate the rallies and disturb peace. Shivakumar also added they have updated AICC president Mallikarjuna Kharge about the developments in the state, and the party leadership will take a call on holding rallies across the country.

India's holding of US government securities touched a high of USD 241.9 billion in June as the country continued to increase its exposure for the third straight month. Japan was the top holder with securities worth over USD 1.11 trillion followed by China at the second spot with a holding valued at USD 780.2 billion in June, according to the latest data released by the US Treasury Department. At the third place was the United Kingdom with an exposure of USD 741.5 billion ahead of Luxembourg at the fourth position with a holding to the tune of USD 384.2 billion. Kolkata: The West Bengal government announced a slew of measures to ensure the safety of women in workplaces, particularly at state-run hospitals, where they have to work on night shifts, too, including designated retiring rooms and CCTV-monitored 'safe zones'. Chief Advisor to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Alapan Bandyopadhyay, announced the measures during a press meet here on Saturday, amid continuing protests by doctors across the state against the alleged rape and murder of a medic at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Apart from hospitals and medical colleges, hostels and other places engaging women during night shifts will now come under the ambit of a flagship programme 'Rattirer Sathi — Helpers of the Night', comprising volunteers, he said. The state government has also decided to develop a mobile application with alarm devices, which can be downloaded by women and used for communication with the respective local police stations in case of any emergency.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar cited security concerns in Jammu and Kashmir as the primary reason for deferring Maharashtra's elections. Additionally, he mentioned that the updating of the voter list in Maharashtra was delayed due to the ongoing monsoon season. The state is also currently engaged in significant cultural and religious activities, including Ganesh Chaturthi, Pitru Paksha, and Diwali, which complicates the electoral process if elections are held immediately. Sources within the ruling party indicated the importance of smooth observance of Janmashtami and the Ganesh festival. They noted that Pitru Paksha, a period in which no auspicious work is undertaken, follows these festivals. «Navratri is a busy season and then Dussera, which will be followed by Diwali. Festivities end on November 2, and the election campaign can be taken up from November 3,» they added.
