No reason to sell Wipro and no reason to buy Bandhan Bank now: Sandip Sabharwal
Sandip Sabharwal, asksandipsabharwal.com, says “the IT outsourcing industry is facing challenges in terms of demand but this could incrementally be positive in my view. I do not think this is incrementally negative. Most analysts are giving a sell on Wipro today; I am not so sure about that. This is something to be tracked.” Sabharwal further says that “it seems very clear that the main reason for Chandra Shekhar Ghosh resigning as CEO & MD of Bandhan Bank could be some reservation from the regulator, although we are not privy to that. Otherwise, when the board had approved his extension, there was no reason for him to step down.” Maybe we can start off with your take as to what is going on with respect to Wipro? There has always been a lot of uncertainty with respect to the top position at Wipro. Do you think that even with the new CEO, the improvement is going to be gradual? How do you expect the stock to react? Sandip Sabharwal: It will be a gradual process.

Oil at $100? Will oil prices hit a century this summer as a global shortage takes hold?
oil jumped above $90 a barrel just days ago, military tensions between Israel and Iran were the immediate trigger. But the rally’s foundations went deeper — to global supply shocks that are intensifying fears of a commodity-driven inflation resurgence. A recent move by Mexico to slash its crude exports is compounding a global squeeze, prompting refiners in the US — the world’s biggest oil producer — to consume more domestic barrels. American sanctions have stranded Russian cargoes at sea, with Venezuelan supply a potential next target. Houthi rebel attacks on tankers in the Red Sea have delayed crude shipments. And despite the turmoil, OPEC and its allies are sticking with their production cuts. It all adds up to a magnitude of supply disruption that has taken traders by surprise. The crunch is turbocharging an oil rally ahead of the US summer driving season, threatening to push Brent crude, the global benchmark, to $100 for the first time in almost two years. That’s amplifying the inflation concerns that are clouding US President Joe Biden’s reelection chances and complicating central banks’ rate-cut deliberations.

Farmers in India are hit hard by extreme weather. Some say expanding natural farming is the answer
The smell comes from a concoction of cow urine, an unrefined sugar known as jaggery, and other organic materials that act as fertilisers, pesticides and bad weather barriers for his corn, rice, leafy greens and other vegetables on his farm in Guntur in India's southern Andhra Pradesh state. The region is frequently hit by cyclones and extreme heat, and farmers say that so-called natural farming protects their crops because the soil can hold more water, and their more robust roots help the plants withstand strong winds. Andhra Pradesh has become a positive example of the benefits of natural farming, and advocates say active government support is the primary driver for the state’s success. Experts say these methods should be expanded across India's vast agricultural lands as climate change and decreasing profits have led to multiple farmers' protests this year. But fledgling government support across the country for these methods means most farmers still use chemical pesticides and fertilisers, making them more vulnerable when extreme weather hits. Many farmers are calling for greater federal and state investment to help farms switch to more climate change-proof practices.

Panama Papers Scandal: Twenty-seven people are set to go on trial on Monday for money laundering in connection with the "Panama Papers" tax evasion scandal, which revealed how many of the world's wealthy stashed assets in offshore companies. The 2016 revelations rocked governments, exposed high-profile personalities, triggered scores of investigations around the world and dealt a blow to Panama's reputation as an offshore financial hub. The defendants due to go on trial in a Panamanian criminal court include Jurgen Mossack and Ramon Fonseca Mora, the founders of the now-defunct law firm at the centre of the scandal.

‘Social order could collapse’ in AI era, two top Japan companies say
TOKYO—Japan’s largest telecommunications company and the country’s biggest newspaper called for speedy legislation to restrain generative artificial intelligence, saying democracy and social order could collapse if AI is left unchecked. Nippon Telegraph and Telephone, or NTT, and Yomiuri Shimbun Group Holdings made the proposal in an AI manifesto to be released Monday. Combined with a law passed in March by the European Parliament restricting some uses of AI, the manifesto points to rising concern among American allies about the AI programs U.S.-based companies have been at the forefront of developing.
