The insurance sector has received close to Rs 54,000 crore as foreign direct investment (FDI) in the last 9 years on the back of further liberalisation of overseas capital flow norms by the government, Financial Services Secretary Vivek Joshi has said. The government increased the permissible FDI limit from 26 per cent in 2014 to 49 per cent in 2015 and then to 74 per cent in 2021, he told PTI in an interview. However, he said, the permissible FDI limit for insurance intermediaries was increased to 100 per cent in 2019.

The mutual fund industry in India has been witnessing unprecedented growth, with inflows in the equity category surging significantly in February. According to data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), the month witnessed inflows amounting to ₹26,866 crore, reflecting a spike of 23.3 percent. Small-cap funds led the way with a net inflow of ₹2,922.4 crore, followed by mid-cap funds with ₹1,808.2 crore, and large-cap funds with ₹921.14 crore in net inflows. Equity funds have seen positive inflows for the 36th consecutive month since March 2021.

Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea of Adani Power Rajasthan Ltd seeking over Rs 1,300 crore as late payment surcharge from the Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, a Rajasthan government-owned power distribution firm. Imposing Rs 50,000 as cost on Adani Power Rajasthan Ltd (APRL), a bench comprising Justices Aniruddha Bose and PV Sanjay Kumar ruled that filing of a miscellaneous application was not the proper legal recourse to late payment surcharge (LPS) by the Adani firm. «Relief of this nature (claiming LPS) cannot be asked in a miscellaneous application which was described in the course of the hearing as an application for clarification,» the bench said. The cost of Rs 50,000 imposed on APRL will be deposited with the Supreme Court Legal Aid Committee, Justice Bose said while reading out the operative portion of the judgement.

Considering the upper price band of Rs 295, the stock is expected to see a flat or even a discounted listing, keeping in trend with the last few debuts, which were muted.

The 30-share BSE benchmark Sensex surged 105 points or 0.14% to settle at 72,748. The broader NSE Nifty gained 32 points or 0.15% to end at 22,055.

Domestic benchmark index NSE Nifty ended 32.36 points up at 22055.7, while the BSE Sensex closed 104.99 points up at 72748.42.
