Siddhartha Sanyal on significance of India-EFTA deal
Siddhartha Sanyal, Chief Economist & Head-Research, Bandhan Bank says “as India is moving up very significantly in the global export chain and in the global value chain, as a country, we are a lot more confident now and that is showing up in this particular agreement with the four European nations and it can act as a stepping stone for a few more going ahead in the coming days. So, it is very significant in my view. This angle is probably not very clearly scratched that we want to integrate more with the world in terms of trade and better ties. In that light, how significant do you see the free trade agreement between India and the European FTA block (India-EFTA)? Siddhartha Sanyal: This is very significant. First of all, one very silent revolution is taking place over the course of the last few years, maybe a decade or so, where very clearly in the global supply chain and the global value chain, India is silently moving up in a very significant fashion.

Defamation case: SC asks Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal whether he wants to give apology
Supreme Court on Monday asked Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has challenged a Delhi High Court order upholding the summons issued to him as an accused in a criminal defamation case, whether he wanted to give an apology to the complainant in the matter. On February 26, Kejriwal told the apex court that he made a mistake by retweeting an allegedly defamatory video circulated by YouTuber Dhruv Rathee related to the BJP IT Cell. During the hearing on Monday, a bench of justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta was told by the counsel appearing for complainant Vikas Sankrityayan that Kejriwal may issue an apology on public platforms like microblogging platform 'X' or Instagram. «You tell us what you want. We can put it to the other side. We are not going to step into your shoes or the other side's shoes,» the bench told the counsel.

IT sector outlook: Worst may not be over; Nirmal Bang sees earnings downside risk for FY25-26
Nirmal Bang Equities sees "further downside risk to earnings for the Indian IT services industry for both FY25 and FY26 as current revenue assumptions seem aggressive in the context of industry commentary, the timing of turnaround in growth, prospects of US interest rate trajectory and uncertainty around US economic policies consequent to the presidential elections." "We expect 4-7 per cent constant currency (CC) revenue growth guidance by both Infosys and HCL Tech. Even this may be at risk if the Fed funds rate is not cut materially or if enterprise customers freeze up due to US election uncertainty.

China protests to India over PM Modi's visit to Indian state Arunachal Pradesh
diplomatic protest with India over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Arunachal Pradesh last week, reiterating its claim over the area by saying India's moves will «only complicate» the boundary question. The Rs 825 crore tunnel, constructed on the road connecting Assam's Tezpur to West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, is being billed as the longest bi-lane road tunnel in the world at such an altitude. SC rejects Maha govt's plea for stay of acquittal of ex-DU prof G N Saibaba in Maoist links case
Supreme Court on Monday rejected a Maharashtra government application seeking a stay on the acquittal of former Delhi University professor G N Saibaba and others in the Maoist links case, and said the Bombay High Court order clearing them of the charges is «prima facie well-reasoned». A bench of justices B R Gavai and Sandeep Mehta, however, admitted the state government's appeal against the March 5 order of the high court. The bench also rejected the oral request of Additional Solicitor General S V Raju, appearing for the Maharashtra government, for early listing of the appeal and said it will come up for hearing in due course of time. «There cannot be any urgency to reverse order acquittal. Had it been the other way around, we would have considered,» the bench told Raju and asked him to file for expeditious hearing at a later stage.

Will try to fix cracks appearing in PAGD: CPM leader M Y Tarigami
CPM leader M Y Tarigami on Monday said he will try to mend the cracks that have emerged among PAGD constituents — the National Conference and the PDP — over seat sharing for the Lok Sabha polls in Kashmir. The PAGD — an amalgam of seven parties, including the NC and the PDP — was formed in the wake of the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution by the Centre in August 2109. «The emergence of PAGD was due to a crisis which still exists. There have been differences between the constituents recently which are out in public. I will still try to mend the gaps that have emerged,» Tarigami, who is the spokesperson of the PAGD, told reporters in Srinagar. The People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) had a seat-sharing arrangement for the District Development Council (DDC) polls held in 2020.
